While people weren’t sure exactly how long the wait would be after the Nintendo Direct to see Pyra/Mythra in action, it seems Nintendo decided to give us an early relief. Just this morning the Nintendo of America Twitter announced a Pyra/Mythra Showcase which will be hosted by Smash Bros director: Masahiro Sakurai, as he goes over the characters and their release date.

While the presentation is unfortunately very early, 9AM for Eastern Time and 6AM for Pacific Time, this 35 minute presentation, as all prior, will be uploaded in its entirety to be watched any time you’d like later on. Basically, don’t fret too much if you miss it live!

Now to the more speculative part of this whole thing: what will Pyra/Mythra be like in Smash Ultimate? The reveal trailer was certainly a fun watch, but like all reveals it focused much more on the hype factor than a wholistic look at their moveset.

Thankfully, in these types of in depth looks, Sakurai tends to go over pretty much everything one can show off besides the intricacies of frame data on moves. And in the Sephiroth look, he even mentioned that a bit too! Its safe to assume that every single move will be shown off for both fighters, and we will have a better idea what exactly distinguishes the two besides their B moves.

While we do know that the two have different moves, as shown in the reveal trailer, these were likely the B moves, and maybe a smash attack or two. More than four unique moves were shown for each, which makes one wonder how different the two are. If I had to bet, I’d say the B moves and Smash Attacks are different, and possibly even the fighter attributes such as frame data and power for the basic A attacks,

Sakurai also tends to give updates on development for the game as well as a look into the stage that comes with each DLC character. Seeing the full Cloud Sea stage on Gramps’ back will be interesting, and I’m even more interested in what extra Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (and maybe even 1 Definitive Edition or X) tracks they add to Ultimate.

Regardless, as a rabid Xenoblade Chronicles fanboy, the news of Pyra/Mythra being the new DLC character was a welcome surprise, and I’ll be sure to be playing the two a ton when they release! If we’re lucky, Sakurai will pull another one of his, “And as for the release date… X character will be available for purchase right after this presentation!” Its not like we haven’t seen such an event occur before, like with the Sephiroth presentation.

Whether you’re a fan of Smash Bros, Xenoblade Chronicles, or both, I hope you’re just as excited to catch the Pyra/Mythra Showcase on March 4th! Let’s hope for an immediate release!
