Grand Chase arrives on Steam in August

Grand Chase is making a comeback after 6 years. And it’s not a new version or a mobile game, but the OG PC version is coming to Steam in August. The game was originally released in 2003 by KOG Studios, and had its servers shut down in 2015.

Yesterday, a new page for Grand Chase was added on Steam, but only a few details were revealed. Rebranded as “Grand Chase Classic”, it suggests that KOG is going for something similar to what Blizzard did with WoW Classic.

But we can see some differences in the “Classic” approach. The initial images display the 20 characters the game had when it was closed, not only the 3 original ones. So we can expect the game being in a similar version to 2015, and not to be gradually updated from time to time.

Players can already register for the Closed Beta Test. To do this, you must visit the game page on Steam and click on the “Request Access” button. If you are chosen, you’ll receive a message on your Steam-linked email.

Registrations end on July 6, and the beta should be available a few days after that. Given that the game is set to release in August, it should be a quick beta period just to be sure the game is not broken.

The side-scroller battle game was popular back in the 2000s, and was one of the most played games in regions like the Philippines and Brazil, years prior to the ascension of MOBAs and Battle Royales.

You could choose one of the available characters and fight through the stages, alone or with your friends. The combo system was actually kinda deep, so the PvP scene was also very active.

After its closing, Grand Chase was re-released as a mobile game in 2018, with a gacha system and many new characters. KOG Studios also produced Elsword, which acts as a sequel to Grand Chase with similar gameplay. They are also in charge of Kurtzpel, an action game released in 2019 set in a parallel universe.
