Can Valheim Be Played Solo

Valheim is the latest survival fad on Steam and has taking the internet by storm. The game has achieved immense feats, raking in over a million sales in just a week bringing their total up to 3 million… but can it be played solo?

While the short answer is yes, the long one is a bit more complicated. In previous articles we have already delved into how the game can be played in multiplayer with friends.

Playing solo in Valheim is viable, but is it advisable?

While many agree that the game is very much playable in the first 10-15 hours, the pace of the game slows down significantly once you start dealing with Bronze. With a gargantuan amount of effort required for a very small payout on the ores, the grinding can seem like a chore.

The enemies and bosses begin to feel a lot harder, some even begin one-shotting you. While some may like the challenge, the more casual player base would not be onboard with the difficulty and grind ramping up that fast. Apart from that, the tasks take much longer especially when you’re trying to get a sizeable settlement started.

The good thing about the game is that your character is persistent throughout regardless of what server you’re on (solo/private/community). When switching servers to, say, a multiplayer one, you will carry any items on you and any skills you may have regardless of whether you’re playing solo or with friends.

So, once again we ask, can Valheim be played solo? Overall, the game is still very enjoyable – even long term. But it will definitely not be for everyone. It is recommended to play with other people online, preferably with a close group of 2-3 friends.
