How to Summon

Well, like with the game’s first boss, the giant and angry stag (Eikthyr), The second boss of Valheim needs to be summoned at a specific sacrificial altar. In its case, you will need to head to the one located in the Black Forest, to locate, you’ll need to explore Burial Chambers or in constructions around the Black Forest biome. After that, look for an altar with a large stone monument and a fire bowl in its middle, located in the Black Forest biome, and bring to it three Ancient Seed’s, with can be dropped by Greydwarf Brutes and Shamans.

After summoning the enemy, well, you need to get ready to and cut the boss down to size, get it?

The Elder is a gigantic tree-like creature and has a simple move-set, but don’t let that fool you, he is as dangerous as he looks. He can do a close-range stomp, a vine-ranged attack, which is capable of sweeping trees and rocks out of its way, and a wide attack that fills the area with roots, with will cause damage to the player if approached. Its size already tells you, but be careful since its attacks do massive damage upon contact.

It is also important to point out that, unlike many enemies in the game, the boss will hunt you, chasing you even if you try to run. And don’t forget to be careful of your surroundings, since other creatures can very well decide to join in the fight.

How to Beat The Elder

Adopting a ranger approach is effective since you can avoid his high damaging stomp. For that, make sure to come prepared and to organize the environment to your advantage, after all, as with everything in life, preparation is key. Also, take note that you can also shield yourself on the pillars (the only structures in the proximity that will not be destroyed by its attacks) and take your time, taking advantage of its openings to cause damage.

Make sure to also make use of the boosts available and forge sturdy armor and prepare a large number of arrows. If you prefer going hard on him, a bronze shield can parry his stomp but is not recommended for first-timers. After killing the boss, you will be able to acquire his ability, which will help you gather materials easier by chopping trees faster.
