Valheim: Best Weapons for Combat

Valheim’s massive popularity has blown many other games out of the water in the past few weeks. If you are thinking of checking out the game yourself, keep in mind that it is much more than just farming and adventuring. You will come across quite a few creatures that will only seek to kill you, and for that, you will need to be prepared. This list will give you a quick rundown on what weapons are best to use in these situations in Valheim to keep yourself protected.

For this list, I will be giving you the best weapon in each of these categories:

• Axes
• Swords
• Knives/Daggers
• Spears
• Bows and Arrows
• Polearms
• Clubs/Maces

Best Axe in Valheim: Battleaxe

In terms of offensive and specifically Slash Damage, the Blackmetal Axe is the way to go, with a Slash Damage that can get up to 110 based on its quality. In terms of both offensive and defensive, though, the Battleaxe is superior to the Blackmetal Axe.

Its Slash Damage can get up to 93, which is not too far off from the Blackmetal Axe at 110. But along with this Slash Damage, you also have significantly better Defense, with a Parry Force that can climb up to 85 at its highest and its durability is higher than that of the Blackmetal Axe, so it will last you a bit longer.

You also have a slightly improved Knockback of 70, whereas the Blackmetal Axe sits at 60.

Best Sword in Valheim: Silver Sword

Once again, the Blackmetal Sword has a higher Slash Damage, as it can reach up to 113 depending on quality, but I will have to give the best sword title to the Silver Sword. It still has a solid Slash Damage reaching up to 93, but it also has Spirit Damage that allows you to hurt undead enemies, including Skeletons and Draugr.

This spirit damage can get up to 45, while the Blackmetal Sword does not have Spirit Damage at all. The Silver Sword, therefore, is a more reliable weapon in that it can protect you from most enemies and with a strong enough Slash Damage to get the job done.

Best Knife/Dagger in Valheim: Blackmetal Knife

Finally, a blackmetal weapon wins the race. The Blackmetal Knife is by far the strongest knife you can have in your arsenal, with Slash Damage starting at 18 and Pierce Damage starting at 18, as well. This is quite a bit higher than your other options, including the Copper Knife, Flint Knife, and Abyssal Razor.

There are many other weapon categories I would recommend over knives, but if you are needing to use a knife then the Blackmetal Knife will not only cover you in terms of offensive, but its defense is also decent. It comes with a Block Power starting at 15, and its Parry Force starts at 10 with a Parry Bonus of 4x. This is definitely your best knife option to protect you in dire situations.

Best Spear in Valheim: Fang Spear

The Fang Spear has an impressive Pierce Damage that starts at 70, crushing most of the other spears by a mile. The Fang Spear not only has a decent damage level, but if you are struggling to get a Silver Sword or Frostner due to their requirements and prices, this weapon is a great way to get a strong weapon earlier in the game.

The weapon can slow you down a bit but is equipped with a Block Power starting at 10 so you won’t go into a fight completely defenseless.

This weapon is a great way to get you through the game before you upgrade to stronger weapons, so it is your best option in terms of being the most easily obtainable with decent power at the same time.

Best Bow and Best Arrow in Valheim: Draugr Fang and Silver Arrow

These two are being lumped together because you cannot have one without the other! The best bow you can get in Valheim is the Draugr Fang, with the best arrow being the Silver Arrow.

To start, the Draugr Fang has a Pierce Damage that starts at 47, as well as a Poison Damage of 5, while the other bows don’t have a Poison stat. The Knockback also falls at 20, which is quite a bit better than the others.

Along with this, the best arrow you can use is the Silver Arrow. It has the highest Pierce power that starts at 52, as well as Spirit Damage that starts at 20.

If you are wanting to increase the Poison Damage with your Draugr Fang, it is also a good idea to go with the Poison Arrow. But overall, if you are wanting to deal damage quickly, the Silver Arrow will work wonders with the Draugr Fang.

Best Polearm in Valheim: Blackmetal Atgeir

The Blackmetal Atgeir has an incredibly high Pierce Damage, starting at 105, making it one of the best and strongest weapons in Valheim. It is safe to say that it will certainly do you wonders when fighting against enemies, and the base Durability of 175 means it will last you a good while.

This weapon is a bit slower than others, but not by too much, with Movement Speed dropping by 10%. Luckily, though, you will have solid defensive stats with this weapon, including a Block Power of 10 and a Parry Force of 40, so you will be able to protect yourself despite the movement slowdown.

Best Club/Mace in Valheim: Frostner

Since Maces fall under the Club-type of weapons, it is easy to say that the Frostner is the best, for a multitude of reasons. While its Blunt Damage is at 35, it also has the ability to use Frost Damage and Spirit Damage. Your Frost Damage is the only thing that increases when upgrading and can get up to 45.

The Frostner is a great choice because it can really slow down your enemies and is the only Club or Mace with the ability to use Frost Damage.

It also has an insanely high Knockback of 120. This weapon will also last a good while, with a Base Durability of 200 that can get up to 350. This is one of the best weapons in Valheim you can get because of its versatility.

Best Overall: Draugr Fang and Silver Arrow

Of all of the weapons presented, my personal favorite best weapon in Valheim is going to have to be the Draugr Fang bow with Silver Arrows. Bow and Arrows are always a great option because it allows you to perform ranged attacks and stay away from enemies, therefore preventing you from losing a significant amount of health.

There are certainly better weapons in terms of dealing damage, but the Draugr Fang is your best bet in taking down enemies from a distance while still dealing a good amount of damage, as well as being able to poison enemies and damage undead enemies using Silver Arrows.

Now that you are aware of the best weapons in each category in Valheim, it’s time to get crafting and protect yourself from the many enemies you will inevitably encounter.
