Terraria: How to craft a starting set of wooden armor

You’re attacked pretty quickly off the start in Terraria, so getting ready to craft yourself some armor is a good first step.

How to craft armor and what you’ll need in Terraria

The fastest armor you can obtain in Terraria in most cases will be the standard wooden armor set. You can craft wooden armor pretty fast given you start surrounded by trees after all.

To get started, chop down a few of the nearby trees, then throw together a wooden workbench using the crafting options on the left-hand side of the menu screen. Placing a workbench down and standing near it will grant you access to a greater number of crafting options.

Of the new options that you’ll find in your crafting menu while standing near the crafting bench, there will be 3 separate pieces of wooden armour, including a helmet and breastplate. If you can’t find them, you may need to gather a bit more wood, as they are hidden from the menu if you don’t have enough to make them yet.

Crafting all three parts and equipping them by placing them in the leftmost slot on the right hand of the screen will grant you a few points towards your defence rating, which is helpful for avoiding death thanks to damage reduction.

It’s not much, but it will help. You get hit a lot in this game after all.

Once you’ve made all three pieces of the set, you can equip all of them into the relevant armor slots for the defence stat, and the Matching Attire achievement. You can also move the three pieces of armor into your social appearance slots to unlock the Fashion Statement achievement at the same time.

This is still very basic as armor goes, but it does give you a start on reducing taken damage a little bit. You’ll need to gather different materials for anything more advanced though.
