Following a slight downturn in quality during the early part of the 2010s, Capcom’s Resident Evil series has been hitting it out of the park over and over again with games such as the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes, 7, and the recently released Village.

One thing that is always pointed out by players is just how good the games look, with the RE Engine being capable of near-photorealism and it is only going to continue to improve as new versions of the engine are released. The RE Engine has been such a huge success for Capcom that the developers are beginning to use it for games outside of the Resident Evil series.

Recently, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes, along with RE7, will be receiving a next-gen upgrade which will see the games ported to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, adding new features including ray tracing, high frame rate and 3D audio for an enhanced gameplay experience.

Since the announcement, fans have been wondering whether their save data can be transferred to their respective next-gen consoles.

Today, Capcom confirmed in a tweet that this is the case, saying:

We’re happy to confirm that save data from the original PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of these games will carry over to their respective upgraded versions. DLC that comes with Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition will transfer over, as well!

Another exciting thing for fans is that they don’t have to pay anything to switch. If the players has already purchased Resident Evil 2, 3, and/or 7 on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, no payment is required for the new PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version. Moreover, an upgrade patch will be available for PC users at no additional cost.

This way, players can relive the chilling horrors and incredible visuals of the titles that drew such a huge fanbase and following.

While there is currently no release date for these remakes, Capcom assured fans that it will be later this year.
