Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Sprigatito’s evolutions leaked

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet - Sprigatito

A week before the official release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, leaks about the game’s content have spread online. These include several new Gen 9 pocket monsters, even the evolutions of Sprigatito, one of the upcoming game’s starters.

Sprigatito is the Grass-type starter Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. A Pokémon with feline features, it is covered in green fur. As a cat-like creature, the new starter Pokémon is quadrupedal like most Grass-type starters in previous generations.

However, unlike Bulbasaur, Chikorita, and Turtwig, for example, the Gen 9 starter Grass-type Pokémon appears to have a more anthropomorphic evolution set.

Leaked images reveal Sprigatito’s evolutions

The images of the new Pokémon’s evolutions were shared on the PokeLeaks subreddit. According to the leaks, Sprigatito’s second form is called Floragato, a bipedal feline that holds something that appears to be a yoyo. Of course, green is the predominant color of this Pokémon, considering its type.

On the other hand, the final evolution of the said starter is reportedly called Meowscarada and is said to be the “Magician Pokémon.” It appears that the name of this new Pokémon is a play on the word involving masks or masquerades, as Meowscarada can be seen with a mask on its face. Similar to Floragato, Meowscarada is bipedal and, as mentioned earlier, has an anthropomorphic design.

Meowscarada is possibly a Grass-Dark Type or Grass-Fairy Type Pokémon based on its design. However, this is purely speculative.

While Pokémon fans are having some sort of a debate about Sprigatito’s evolutions, this anthropomorphic (specifically feminine) design is not something new to the franchise. In fact, Gen 3’s Gardevoir remains one of the most popular feminine anthropomorphic pocket monsters.

Along with Quaxly and Fuecoco, Sprigatito is one of the three starters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are upcoming role-playing video games (RPGs) developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. They are to be released on 18 November 2022.
