The new season of Pokemon Go is upon us, and with it brings a whole new Special Research Task.

This new Pokemon Go research features the pesky Team Rocket, Jesse and James, Grunts, Leaders Cliff, Arlo and Sierra, and The Team GO Rocket Boss, Giovanni.

Research Tasks

It has been a while since players had a new research quest, that hasn’t been a paid event or community day.

The last Research was in October 2020, ‘An Inter-egg-sting Development’. But the Team Rocket Boss is back with his well, team, and it is up to us to help Doctor Willow investigate what the troublesome Team Go Rocket is getting up to.

Beginning Sunday, 28 Feburary 2021 at 12.00 am local time, the new research, The Higher They Fly, was made available to all players.

The clue is in the title with this one, and this research focuses primarily on the Flying-type Pokemon.

There are 6 stages to this research, each with their own rewards.

The Higher They Fly Step 1 of 6

  • Win a raid- 15 PokéBalls
  • Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket Grunts – 3 Hyper Potions
  • Catch 1 Shadow Pokemon- 3 Revives
  • Rewards: 10 Pinap Berries, 10 Nanab Berries and 10 Razz Berries

The Higher They Fly Step 2 of 6

  • Catch 5 Shadow Pokémon – 1 Sun Stone
  • Make 3 Nice Curve throws in a row – 15 Great Balls
  • Catch 10 Flying-type Pokémon – Doduo encounter
  • Rewards: 1500 XP, 500 Stardust and 10 Mega Pidgeot Candy

The Higher They Fly Step 3 of 6

  • Purify 5 Shadow Pokémon – 30 Mega Pidgeot Candy
  • Defeat 5 Team Go Rocket Grunts – 30 Mega Pidgeot Candy
  • Earn 3 Candies walking with your buddy – 30 Mega Pidgeot Candy
  • Rewards: 2000 XP, 1 Rocket Radar and Pidgeot Candy

The Higher They Fly Step 4 of 6

  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Arlo – 1250 XP
  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Cliff – 1250 XP
  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Sierra – 1250 XP
  • Rewards: 2500 XP, 1000 XP and 1 SuperRocket Radar

The Higher They Fly Step 5 of 6

  • Find the Team Go Rocket Boss – 5 Max Potions
  • Battle the Team Go Rocket Boss – 20 Ultra Balls
  • Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss – 5 Max Revives
  • Rewards: 3000 XP, 1 Fast TM and 1 Charged TM

The Higher They Fly Step 6 of 6

  • Claim Reward – 2000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 2000 XP
  • Claim Reward – 2000 XP
  • Rewards: 2 Golden Razz Berries, 2 Silver Pinap Berries and 1 Premium Battle Pass

Giovanni will also be using different Shadow Pokemon throughout this Season.

  • March 2021: Shadow Articuno
  • April 2021: Shadow Zapdos
  • May 2021: Shadow Moltres

This research isn’t timed, but like all previous research, it is definitely easier to complete the tasks during the current season.
