Pokemon Go is currently experimenting with a few potential new hour-long events, with a Mega Raid Hour upcoming very soon.

This event is an entirely new style, but we can gauge some things about it based on what we know about similar events and currently available information.

When is the Mega Raid Hour starting?

The new mega raid hour event will be trialed on the 18th of March at 6:00 PM local time and ends at 7:00 PM local time.

The only precedent we have for this event is the quite similar standard raid hours, which typically focus on a specific single or set of legendary Pokemon each time.

For more regular raid hours, we keep an up-to-date list of current raid hours right here on The Click at the page below.

What can we expect of the upcoming event?

It seems to simply be a raid hour with a focus being mega raids, as opposed to a specific focused legendary Pokemon.

It’s an interesting idea for sure, though mega raids do not seem to be as popular as typical legendary raids, so we’ll have to see how it goes precisely.

It is likely that the focus of the mega raid hour will include Mega Abomasnow and Mega Houndoom, as they are expected to become the new mega raid focuses as of the 16th of March.

It is also mentioned that a “surprise new mega-evolved Pokemon” will be appearing in Mega raids, which is mentioned in the article linked below.

I will skip mentioning it directly here for those who wish to be surprised, if anyone would prefer the spoiler, please see the following article:

Unfortunately, there isn’t really have a whole lot of information about this event outside of what’s been specified here.

Standard raid hours are quite simple affairs, and this mega raid hour doesn’t even specify what raids to expect in advance – while normal raid hours simply use whatever is currently in the tier 5 raid rotation.

Due to this, we have to assume that it will be similar to a typical raid hour and the spawns will be based on what mega raids will be available at the time.

It is also worth noting this event is a trial of a new type of event, which is why it is filled under “Bonus Hours” – we may not see this again if it is unpopular, so if you like the idea do try to attend it.

Best of luck with your mega raids if you take part, trainers.
