Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, the newest title by Insomniac Games, just recently dropped more information about its newest heroine: Rivet.

It’s been a while since we’ve received another playable character in the Ratchet and Clank series, let alone a playable heroine.

Ever since her reveal, players have waited with bated breath to see any other details regarding her name and how she fits into the new game.

The premise of the new game is simple: Ratchet and Clank are pulled into another dimension where the series mainstay, Dr. Nefarious, has become emperor.

In this new dimension, resistance fighter Rivet is leading the charge against Nefarious and his goons; Clank is separated from Ratchet and helps Rivet out on her journey while Ratchet tries to reunite with Clank.

Rivet comes off as a more spirited character than Ratchet, as her lines are delivered with plenty of charm by voice actress Jennifer Hale.

She’s mainly known for her role as Female Shephard from the Mass Effect series, but has been in plenty of other games; her talents are hopefully going to be used to their fullest extent in this newest installment.

Rivet’s gameplay doesn’t seem too different from Ratchet’s excluding the fact that she uses a hammer in contrast to the iconic wrench that Ratchet has used since forever

. Coupled with the fact that she’ll be partnered with Clank for (presumably) most of the game, players are probably not going to receive anything too wild with Rivet.

However, given Insomniac’s track record, we can feel confident that the team will make it so that both Ratchet and Rivet will have enough differences to keep gameplay fresh.

Whether both characters will have unique gameplay elements or weapons remains to be seen, but regardless, it does seem like the gunplay will remain chaotic and fun.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is definitely a welcome entry into the series, and if it’s successful, maybe we’ll be seeing more of Rivet in future games.
