Mods are an important part of The Sims, right? Well, we’re here to ponder on whether mods will be an important part of The Sims 5 too.

We’re pretty sure that the modding of video games, The Sims included, isn’t going away anytime soon.

The Sims 5 and Mods

As you might imagine, we don’t actually know anything official about The Sims 5 and mods. Better still, we don’t really even know anything about The Sims 5.

We don’t have a release date, gameplay footage, feature information or even real confirmation that it’s on the way.

We do know how its’ likely to play out though, looking at The Sims 4, The Sims 3, and the other Sims titles. So, that leads us to believe that there will be mods in one way or another.

Modders always find their ways into games and we don’t think The Sims 5 is going to stop that.

Should They Be Supported?

It’s safe to say that the Modding Community is one of the core pillars that supports The Sims titles for so long after their initial releases.

Of course EA do produce expansion packs which open up The Sims titles with new features and official items, but modders add a lot to The Sims and a lot of Sims players use mods in one way or another.

It seems counter-productive to completely oppose mods for The Sims given the nature of the title. Bethesda has shown that officially supporting mods can almost work with Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition. However, these still feel like “in progress” iterations of what official mod support could look like.

The Sims is as progressive as they come in terms of games, finding itself almost encompassing an entire genre on its’ own. Could we see EA use The Sims 5 to further innovate in the industry and introduce official support for mods and modders?
