GTA Online is more than just running-and-gunning and The Open Road is one way Rockstar have added a unique depth to their chaotic multiplayer experience.

Added a little while ago, as part of the Bikers Update, The Open Road is a Public Free Mode feature you’re going to want to get to grips with.

Below, we’re running down everything you need to know about The Open Road in GTA Online and how you can access it.

What Is The Open Road In GTA Online?

The Open Road is a Dark Net marketplace that GTA Online players can use to conduct… somewhat illegal business. It is a Grand Theft Auto game, right?

Depicted in-game as an underground network service, The Open Road can be used by an MC Clubhouse’s President to purchase and operate a number of businesses.

Lester, from the single-player story, operates it and introduces himself as Long John Teabag when you open it up for the first time…

Should you like, I can help you produce, market, and sell… Quality counterfeit documents… Unimpeachable fake cash… Dank-ass marijuana… Moreish methamphetamine… Or your realtor’s favourite, cocaine… Please be advised, only one business of each type can be owned, resupplies and sales are your responsibility, administrative fees will be charged for every transaction, and your business may draw unwanted attention from law enforcement or other malefactors.

There are five different business types available to purchase on The Open Road:

  • Document Forgery Office
  • Coutnerfiet Cash Factory
  • Weed Farm
  • Methamphetamine Lab
  • Cocaine Lockup

Each business type has a few different locations that determine how… profitable it will be for you. The cheaper ones are located outside Los Santos’ main city, as you might expect.

Check out Fandom’s wiki page on The Open Road for a full run-down on all the locations and their prices.

It isn’t just about owning businesses though… When you do purchase one via The Open Road on GTA Online, you’ll need to keep it supplied in a number of ways.

Each business needs to have a full Supply Meter to operate and there are two ways you can get them.

Either you buy them for $15,000 per unit, or you can steal them through a number of Supply Stealing Missions. Bar Fights, Armoured Truck Robbery, and Target Intimidation are all a part of it and these can be found when you’re looking at your properties on The Open Road. (We’ll cover that in a moment.)

It’s worth noting though that one person can only carry one Supply Unit at a time. These activities were made with team-work in mind.

When you have enough supplies and your businesses produce something, you’ll need to undertake a Sell Mission to reap the rewards of your harvest. This will mainly include delivering items and/or vehicles.

However, you need to be careful as both these Sell Missions and your businesses will have unwanted eyes watching them! That means rival gangs, the Police, and even Rednecks will cause trouble on occasion. Protecting your assets is key.

How Do You Access It?

In order to access The Open World in GTA Online, you’ll need to purchase an MC Clubhouse and then appoint a President for your MC.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to find a laptop in the Clubhouse office bearing The Open Road logo.

From here, it’s smooth sailing and you should have your illegal businesses up and running in no time! Just remember to bring your MC Crew along with you because you might need a helping hand.
