Genshin Impact developers seek to identify individuals behind leaker accounts

Developers of the popular action role-playing game Genshin Impact are on the hunt to discover the identities of three known leakers on Twitter.

As reported by Axios, a California court has subpoenaed Twitter Inc at the request of MiHoYo’s Cognosphere division to provide information that will help identify the individuals behind the accounts Merlin Impact, Genshin World, and XWides.

The subpoenas were issued this month, commanding Twitter to divulge information such as the involved Twitter users’ names and telephone numbers. The legal documents also request their physical, email, and IP addresses or any other information valuable for their identification.

While it is uncertain how the three leakers acquired then-unreleased Genshin Impact content, it is very likely that leaks were obtained via the game’s test builds.

Nevertheless, Cognosphere had reportedly requested Twitter to have the leakers’ posts that amount to “copyright violations” be taken down. However, the said posts were not deleted, urging Cognosphere to take necessary actions.

In response to the issue, Merlin Impact has assured followers that they are not “in any legal danger” and that the developers can only delete their Twitter account. The leaker also thanked followers for their support.

As of writing, it appears that the leaker XWides continues to share future Genshin Impact content, as evidenced by a recent tweet which is based on a Chinese forum. On the other hand, however, Genshin World appears to have closed their account.
