In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Dark Knight!

NOTE: As the Media Tour embargo has lifted, extra info has come out about all jobs. While most of the information is still fairly accurate, I’ll be making a piece per “role” in the game to make note of especially interesting things we couldn’t glean from the Job Actions trailer.

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

To the untrained eye, Endwalker’s Dark Knight may look to not be very different overall. However, to Dark Knight mains like myself, these changes look to be a synergizing of old and new iterations of the job.

Delirium has been changed to a one-minute cooldown which allows for three blood actions to be done within a 30-second window. This is ultimately a loss in total Bloodspillers or Quietus done in a fight through Delirium, but also no longer holds the class to being Warrior’s burst window or restricted as much by skill speed tiers.

The other changes which regard offensive abilities are that of Salted Earth and the Simulacrum. Salted Earth now is not an action that needs to be placed, but one which applies on the ground wherever the Dark Knight was when clicking the ability. Additionally, a new action is being added after the usage of Salted Earth. As seen below, it appears the Simulacrum that a Dark Knight summons can use a new move later on, which I’m certainly excited to see.

Dark Knight already had the best defensive cooldown in the game in The Blackest Night, and the action appears to be changing slightly as well. After using the action in the trailer, the Dark Knight shortly afterwards does something similar to another player, hinting at new utility or effects in regards to the move. It could already be placed on another player before, but the new animation had not been present in the previous expansions.

While Dark Knight may not have gotten a ton of new toys to play with, the changes made to the class seem to be an effort to separate it from Warrior’s playstyle and mix and match the best aspects of all iterations of the job. Personally, I am more hyped than ever for the FFXIV Dark Knight and Endwalker cannot come soon enough!
