Week 8 challenges for Season of the Chosen are live in Destiny 2 and one of them rewards a free weapon from the PvP mode “Trials of Osiris.” So how do you obtain this free Trials weapon in Destiny 2?

Free Trials weapon in Destiny 2

If you’ve been following the seasonal challenges for Season of the Chosen, you’ll notice that there is a brand new challenge called “Trial by Firing Squad” and as part of the rewards for this challenge, you will receive a “Trials Weapon.”

This is great news for players that would like to use these rare and difficult to obtain weapons, but aren’t able to actually get the guns themselves.

Adept Trials weapons?

While the challenge doesn’t explicitly state that the reward won’t include the Adept versions of Trials weapons, don’t get your hopes up to get an Adept Messenger or Igneous Hammer.

It’s nice that Bungie is giving players that may not want to go through the trouble of going Flawless the opportunity to obtain Trials weapons, but the Adept weapons should still be unobtainable outside of the current means.

How to get your free Trials weapon in Destiny 2

In order to claim your reward, you’ll need to complete the seasonal challenge in week 8 of Season of the Chosen. This challenge is titled “Trial by Firing Squad.”

How do you complete this challenge, you ask? Well, you’ll still need to play a fair bit of Trials, but you only need to win 7 rounds in the entire playlist. This means you could play 7 total games and only win a single round in each of those games and still qualify for your free Trials weapon.

While this is certainly a nice surprise for players, don’t expect Bungie to continue to do this for Raid weapons or other endgame content. This seems like it will be a very rare, once-a-season act of kindness.
