Destiny 2: More Trials of Osiris changes coming soon

Last Updated on: 27th August 2021, 12:24 am

Ah, Trials of Osiris, you’re such a mountain of ridiculous skill-based crucible matches where hopes and dreams die at the foot before even beginning to climb the most insane group in all of Destiny 2: PVP only Guardians. The absolute end-game level of Crucible truly is terrifying, as Trials of Osiris is the only place where playing at 500% is not just recommended, but almost required.

I’ve only ever run Trials twice with some friends and it went about as well as you think. Raiding with people from some sketchy LFG site is much more appealing than running Trials as an inexperienced Crucible player. Trials of Osiris has had plenty of flak thrown its way by the community for various reasons and Bungie has promised to address these issues in the past.

From the looks of things, Trials is getting the revamp it sorely needed.

Tweaking the Trials

Usually, we get a TWAB on Thursdays but with The Witch Queen livestream that just happened on Tuesday, we already got plenty of information about the future of Destiny 2. This time, the Destiny Dev Team created a post that went into details regarding the revamp for Trials of Osiris; the changes are going to be significant, as the mode has gone mostly unchanged in the time it’s been here.

Right off the bat, one of the major changes that will be coming soon will be not needing to already have a full Fireteam to participate in Trials. You can be matched up with other individuals or go in with a partial team and have the slots filled out with randoms. If there’s ever one piece of advice you want to take from any of my articles, its this: make friends to play Trials of Osiris with. This is a gamemode that demands the utmost level of communication to succeed; if you want a fighting chance at going flawless, just start making friends on Reddit or wherever you go for LFG activities.

Another major change that is coming when Trials starts on September 10th is that you’ll need the new annual expansion to participate in Trials. Cheaters are one of the many issues that plague Destiny 2, so part of the solution to combat this influx of dickheads making the game worse for everyone is to require everyone to shell out the cash. In addition to the introduction of a new anticheat software, this should curb the tremendous wave of cheating Guardians nicely. Let’s wait and see if it’ll work though.

Some other major changes include things to make round of Trials of Osiris go a little bit smoother; we’re getting a reduced round time (90s instead of 120s), emotes only working in first person, no equipping swords if they have no ammo, and no hoarding special/heavy ammo in between rounds. The emote and sword changes are to prevent three peeking (using the third person camera to peek around corners) and now you can’t just lean too heavily on your nasty special and heavy weapons.

Trials is also receiving a rewards tracker like all of the other activities have as of right now; you’ll get engrams, materials, and other goodies for ranking up the activity. Speaking of rewards, passages now don’t force you to reset if you get too many losses; in fact, passages don’t track losses anymore, only wins. Whether you’re on the track on getting Flawless will still show up on the card but now you won’t be shamed for losing so much anymore. You’ll still have to go Flawless to enter The Lighthouse but now you don’t have to see all your failure stare you in the face.

Your passage will also be shared between all of your characters, so you don’t need to buy multiple passages to play with other characters. In addition to this, there’s more incentive to keep your passage well after you’ve lost your Flawless status, as the more wins you have on your card, the more reputation you earn with Saint-14. In addition to the bonus reputation, you’ll also have an increased chance to earn bonus Trials Engrams and high stat armor after matches are over.

There are even more changes being brought to Trials of Osiris and it seems like they’re gonna bring a rennaisance for the PVP scene in Destiny 2. With the new additions like anticheat and even Labs for Trials of Osiris (a place where the puiblic can test new features/modes), it’s safe to say that Bungie is listening to its PVP exclusive audience. We’ll only know upon release of the aformentioned features whether or not Trials has really improved, but from the sounds of things, it seems like we’re in for a new influx of Trials players.

Definitely take the time to play around in Crucible before diving into Trials, especially since the next Trials weekend won’t be until September 10th. This is more than enough time to take your licks in Crucible before you get completely stomped in this brand new Trials of Osiris Destiny 2 is gonna get pretty soon. If you’re itching for a beating of some sort but can’t afford a dominatrix, then maybe consider giving Trials a look when its time.
