It’s been a solid couple of weeks since the Exotic Hand Cannon, Hawkmoon has made its triumphant return to Destiny 2. With its return, however, we were promised the ability to receive different copies of the gun with random perks. Players waited ever-so-patiently for whatever mission was to become available, but hope soon faded after weeks went by with nothing. Finally, as of January 19, 2021, players can now complete a mission to unlock random rolls on Hawkmoon.

What is Hawkmoon?

Hawkmoon is an Exotic Hand Cannon in Destiny 2, previously a PlayStation exclusive in Destiny. It’s Exotic perk in Destiny 2, Paracausal Shot, states “Final blows and precision hits with Hawkmoon grant stacks of Paracausal Charge. The final round in the magazine deals bonus damage based on the number of stacks. Stowing Hawkmoon on the final round removes this bonus.”

How to Unlock Random Rolls

In order to obtain your random rolled Hawkmoon, you’ll have to hop into a mission called “Harbinger.” Speak to Crow on the Tangled Shore to begin this quest on the EDZ. This quest is quite difficult, so you’ll probably want to bring some friends along with you, especially if you aren’t the highest Power level.

The Dam

In order to progress through this mission, you’ll be going back into the Lake of Shadows area where you first collected your Hawkmoon. Upon your arrival, you’ll want to head over to a blown-out chimney in the heavily damaged building to the right of where you spawn in. Doing so will bring you into the mission you need to complete for your Hawkmoon with random rolls.

Once you find your way through the tunnel above, you might be wondering where to go now? Look for a branch poking out of the rocks, jump onto the branch and jump towards the base of the dam.

Just follow the rest of the path up the dam, and you’ll reach the next stage.

The Emissaries

Once you reach this stage, you’ll be required to kill 3 emissaries. Each of these are elemental-shielded enemies; the first Void, second Arc, and third Solar, so be sure you have the ability to deal all 3 types of damage in order to kill these emissaries.

Once you deal about 50% damage to each enemy, they will become immune and retreat, you have to look around for a door that appears to be locked with Taken energy, blast it open, find the fleeing emissary, kill it, and head back into the main room. Rinse and repeat for each boss and then head into the main boss room for the Lake of Shadows Strike.

Survive

This encounter is definitely no joke; you’ll most likely want to equip a Void weapon to start along with an option to stagger Unstoppable Champions. You’ll want to take out all of the Taken Thrall and Wizards as soon as they spawn.

When they are all defeated, two Taken Centurions, some Taken Vandals, and an Unstoppable Taken Champion will spawn. However you want to take these enemies out is up to you, just make sure to take them out as fast as possible.

The final wave consists of 2 Solar Captains, a few Taken Goblins, and 2 Unstoppable Taken Champions. It’s a lot easier to handle everything else if these Champions are dead, but just make sure you defeat everything in the room. After everything is defeated, open the chest and follow the waypoint out.

For the final phase, you’re definitely going to need a Void and Solar weapon. Once the encounter begins, you’ll want to take out the Goblins and then focus your fire on the boss until it goes immune.

Taken Acolytes and Solar-shielded Taken Knights will start spawning, take them out and move onto the next side. Repeat this process again to kill the boss, and you’ll receive 10 Feathers for Crow’s quest, 2 random roll Hawkmoons, as well as the Hawkmoon catalyst.

Possible Rolls

There are hundreds of possible rolls you can get on your new Hawkmoon, with endless combinations of the following barrel perks, traits, and grips:

Hawkmoon Catalyst

The Hawkmoon catalyst is also now available, after you’ve unlocked the Hawkmoon catalyst, you will need 700 kills to complete the catalyst and equip it. Once unlocked, the catalyst allows Hawkmoon to generate Orbs on multikills and gain a tracker that displays the number of combatants defeated with it, as with any Masterworked weapon.

However, the real power behind the catalyst comes from the Hunter’s Trance perk. “Increased magazine size. Grants increased handling, reload speed, and weapon range based on the number of stacks of Paracasual Charge.” The catalyst increases Hawkmoon’s Magazine to a staggering 10 shots, up from 8.

Hopefully, that’s everything you need to know about how to get Hawkmoon random rolls as well as the Hawkmoon catalyst!
