PS Plus May 2021: Terminator Resistance could be the free PS5 game

The next set of PS Plus games for May 2021 are nearly here, with the announcement set to be made this week.

But, Sony and Reef Entertainment may have gave away what free PS5 game is coming to the service next month and it could be Terminator Resistance.

Terminator Resistance To Be Free On PS Plus?

Terminator Resistance, the 2019 game, is set to be ported to PS5 bringing it to the next-generation.

The game was set to be released on April 30th, but was ultimately delayed so Sony could do some “enhanced improvements”.

In a blog post, Reef Entertainment broke the news to fans saying,

“As you are likely aware, those who already own a PS4 copy of the game will be receiving a free upgrade for TERMINATOR: RESISTANCE ENHANCED on PS5, and we are very grateful to SONY’s PlayStation teams for assisting us in this upgrade project.

However, as ENHANCED was developed after the release of the PS4 version, we have recently been informed that there is some additional work that needs to be done on SONY’s side to ensure that the upgrades from PS4 to PS5 happen smoothly.

As of the moment, we have not been given a final date on when SONY will be able to complete this. As a result, there is a strong possibility that the PS4 to PS5 upgrade will not be available for the launch of TERMINATOR: RESISTANCE ENHANCED on April 30th and will follow a short time later.

Please be assured that we are doing all we can to get this upgrade ready and available for you as soon as possible.”

The delay is only set to delay the PS4 to PS5 upgrade, but the release of Terminator Resistance and the date of it could hint at it coming to PS Plus.

Since the console’s release in November 2020 we have seen a PS5 game be given away for free each month.

But, the PS5 is only six months or so into its lifecycle which means there aren’t too many games available on it currently, so it will be a struggle to find games to give away each month.

We have seen some games launch on the service, such as Oddworld: Soulstorm which has been great to see and really helped step things up as Microsoft are doing the same with Xbox Game Pass.

Another game is also releasing on April 30th which will certainly overshadow Terminator Resistance and that is Returnal.

With Returnal hooking critics and set to do the same with PS5 owners, there won’t be much love for Terminator Resistance.

This will give Sony the perfect opportunity to release the game on PS Plus to bring some attention to it, we may also see the PS4 upgrade launch at the same time.

Only time will tell, but we will find out soon as the announcement is right around the corner.

Announcement Date & Time

The PS Plus games for May 2021 are due to be announced on Wednesday, April 28th at 11:30 am EST/4:30 pm BST.

Release Date

PS Plus games are announced on the last Wednesday of the month and released on the first Tuesday of the following month.

This means we can expect the PS Plus games to be released on Tuesday, May 4th.

What To Expect

Each month, Sony have been given away one PS5 games and two or three PS4 games, so we can expect the same pattern next month.

So far this year we have seen games such as Oddworld: Soulstorm, Control, Destruction All-Stars, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake release on PS Plus.
