Free Verse in Genshin Impact has a specific permanent route, so you do not need to wait for a limited event or banner. Free Verse starts with Penny near the coast and sends you underwater to rescue trapped aquatic friends. For Free Verse, this guide covers the prerequisite, the practical route and the checks that matter if the expected interaction is still missing.
The cleanest route is to clear the prerequisite first and then follow the local objective in order instead of trying to brute-force the destination for Free Verse. For Free Verse in Genshin Impact, check the quest log and Quest Items tab before travelling, because one missing flag or item can make the correct location look completely inactive.

Before working on Free Verse in Genshin Impact, clear the requirements below. For Free Verse, these are the parts most likely to explain why the expected NPC, door, puzzle, boss or item has not appeared yet.
- Reach Penny’s coastal area.
- Have Fontaine diving unlocked.
How to complete the route
The safest way to handle Free Verse in Genshin Impact is to complete the local steps in order. Around Free Verse, Genshin can let you physically reach the right area before the required interaction is enabled, so skipping ahead may make an intended progression gate look like a bug.
- Speak with Penny.
- Dive to marked locations.
- Use Xenochromatic abilities to free the trapped creatures.
- Return to finish the dialogue.
Keep the active objective tracked while moving through Free Verse. If the Free Verse marker shifts underground or onto another map layer, follow the intended cave, ruin or quest entrance instead of dropping directly onto the icon from the surface. That distinction matters for Free Verse because stacked exploration layers can place two objectives at almost the same horizontal map position.
Important details that are easy to miss
There are a few details around Free Verse in Genshin Impact that save time once you know them. For Free Verse, they also help separate intended progression from a genuine technical problem.
- The quest alternates between surface and underwater objectives.
- Different obstacles use different nearby abilities.
Because Free Verse is permanent content, there is no expiry date to race. The practical reason to finish Free Verse is access: its progression flag can also control nearby rooms, quests, systems or one-time exploration rewards, removing later blockers in the surrounding chain.
Why Free Verse in Genshin Impact may not be working
If Free Verse in Genshin Impact still looks locked after reaching the correct place, work through these checks before restarting the game or assuming the objective is broken.
- If normal attacks fail, borrow the matching Xenochromatic skill.
- Check the underwater map layer for offset markers.
For Free Verse, also check whether the game expects a particular world state, daily reset, gadget, elemental interaction, map layer or previously completed subquest. For Free Verse, those checks are legitimate progression gates and the map may not surface the dependency clearly. A restart can refresh the Free Verse interface state, but it cannot replace the unfinished prerequisite that controls this route.
What to do after finishing it
After Free Verse in Genshin Impact is complete, check the immediate area before teleporting away. The chain around Free Verse can place its next chest, follow-up NPC, blueprint, waypoint or achievement interaction only a few steps from the final objective.
- Completion grants reputation and the quest reward.
Common questions
Is Free Verse in Genshin Impact permanent?
Yes. Free Verse is part of permanent game content rather than a temporary event, so you can return later. Completing the Free Verse prerequisite earlier can still make the surrounding exploration and follow-up quests easier to manage.
Why can’t I see the Free Verse objective?
For Free Verse in Genshin Impact, the most common explanation is an unfinished prerequisite, wrong state, missing quest item or nearby mechanism that has not registered. Compare your current Free Verse quest stage with the requirement list above before searching for a second location.
Can I come back later?
Yes. The permanent objective tied to Free Verse remains available after you leave the region. If the Free Verse route uses a real daily reset, changing the in-game clock does not substitute for the server reset unless a step explicitly asks for in-game time.
Once you have finished Free Verse in Genshin Impact, nearby shortcuts and follow-up objectives are worth checking while the route is fresh. The objective is much less confusing once the prerequisite, route and final interaction are treated as three separate checks around Free Verse. For official notices or future changes that could affect Free Verse, use the official Genshin Impact website after completing the permanent steps above.
