Fortnite Rift Service Quest: All Eight NPCs and Two-Match Guide

The Fortnite Rift service quest asks you to use a Rift service or hire a Specialist in two different matches. You can choose either option each time. The catch is that two NPC interactions in a single match still count as just one match, so you’ll need to enter another game for the second credit.

There are eight friendly NPCs around Crossbones Isle at launch. All eight offer a Rift service, and three can also be hired as Specialists. Gold Bars are vaulted this season, so those services are free. Here’s where to go and what to select.

How to complete the Fortnite Rift service quest

  1. Enter Battle Royale or Zero Build on the Treasure Hunters map, Crossbones Isle.
  2. Visit any NPC offering a Rift service, or one of the three NPCs with a Specialist hire option.
  3. Choose the qualifying service from their interaction menu. Check the quest counter for 1/2.
  4. Start a new match. Visit an eligible NPC again and use a Rift or hire a Specialist.
  5. After the second qualifying match, the quest completes for 20,000 XP.

The Fortnite Rift service quest counts the number of different matches in which you use an eligible service. A Rift and a hire in one match do not replace the second game. You also do not need to find the same NPC twice.

For the quickest start, try Windmill Village. Buccaneer Brigand Jones is just south of the location label and offers a Heavy Specialist hire or Rift. Nami is farther south on the beach, with a Rift service. If you drop on the southern side of the island, Luffy and Usopp are both at Loguetown.

One location detail worth getting right: Charlotte-Sensei is by the dock, not on the $.$. Rocky itself. You don’t need to fight A$AP Rocky or board his ship to use her service. Our Treasure Hunters map guide can help you plan a landing closer to your chosen character.

Which NPCs count as Specialists?

For a Specialist hire, go to Buccaneer Brigand Jones (Heavy), Kawaii Team Leader (Medic), or Charlotte-Sensei (Supply). These three are the recruitable Specialists in the launch NPC lineup. Select the Hire option to add the character as an ally.

The other five NPCs provide Rifts rather than Specialist hires. That’s completely fine for the Fortnite Rift service quest. If a Rift is the first option you find, use it. You don’t need to spend time travelling across the island just to recruit a particular role.

Does the Fortnite Rift service quest cost Gold Bars?

No. Epic Games vaulted Gold Bars in update v43.00 and made follower services free. That means you can visit an eligible NPC straight after landing. You won’t have to open chests or search for currency before hiring a Specialist.

Approach the NPC, open their conversation menu and select the service itself. Simply talking to Nami or another character is not the same as using their Rift. Likewise, a Specialist must actually be hired, not just spoken to.

Why is the Fortnite Rift service quest stuck at 1/2?

Almost always, the issue is the different-matches requirement. If you’ve hired two Specialists or used two Rifts in the same game, only that one match counts. Return to the lobby and begin another match before trying again.

Check that the action you selected was a Rift or Specialist hire rather than ordinary dialogue. The NPC menu tells you which option is available. Once you’ve used the correct service in two matches, your reward should appear in the weekly quest progress.

The Fortnite Rift service quest is one of four Week 0 Kickstart objectives. The other three involve consuming a Devil Fruit, digging up Sprite Chests through Wanted Posters, and using a loaded cannon. Finish all four for a combined 80,000 XP.

Does the Fortnite Rift service quest count towards Captain X?

Yes. This is a Weekly Quest, so completing it also advances the weekly completion milestones used by the Captain X reward track. Four completed weekly objectives reach the first milestone; the Outfit comes later in the track and requires the Treasure Hunters Battle Pass.

For the Fortnite Rift service quest, the most efficient route is to pick whichever Rift NPC is on your landing path, take the free service, and do it again in the next match. There’s nothing to buy and no reason to wait for a special event.
