The Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol returns in update v42.40, bringing back a weapon with a powerful single shot and a huge kick. Pulling the trigger sends your character backwards, while a hit can push an opponent away. It’s great fun once you’ve learned the timing, but you can also send yourself somewhere awkward.

Epic unvaulted it on October 15 alongside Suppressed Assault Rifle and Bouncer. You don’t have to complete a challenge or unlock a Loot Hack first. Search normal OG loot, grab one if you find it and be ready for the kickback when you fire.

Where to get the Flint-Knock

Search chests and ordinary weapon loot in Fortnite OG Season X. The October 15 patch adds the pistol back to the eligible pool, without naming a guaranteed chest or fixed drop location.

If an old guide says the Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol is vaulted, check when it was written. The weapon wasn’t in every Season X rotation, but Epic has confirmed its return in v42.40.

How the recoil works

Firing the Flint-Knock pushes you backwards. It can also knock an enemy away when you land a hit, which can be useful if they’re pressing towards you or holding a good position.

Look behind your character before using the Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol. An unexpected jump can leave you out in the open or send you off a ledge, so it pays to know where you’re going to land.

Aiming and reloading

The Flint-Knock fires a single heavy shot, followed by a reload. It performs best at close range, where you have a decent chance of landing the hit and making the knockback count.

Don’t stand still after firing. Switch to a shotgun or SMG while the Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol reloads, or use the recoil to move to nearby cover. An opponent with an automatic weapon will have plenty of time to fight back if you wait for a second shot in the open.

Using it for movement

You can use the recoil to propel yourself out of danger or towards a place you couldn’t reach quite as easily on foot. Get used to how far the weapon sends you before trying a move near a cliff or tall building.

The Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol isn’t guaranteed to prevent fall damage in every situation. If you’re trying a jump, think about the surface you’ll land on and whether an enemy will have an easy shot while you’re airborne.

Flint-Knock versus Bouncer

Bouncer also returns in the October 15 update. It launches players from a placed surface, while the Flint-Knock adds a damaging shot to its burst of movement. They’re both useful, but they solve slightly different problems.

Use Bouncer when you want a prepared movement route and the Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol when you need to react to a nearby enemy. Its knockback can also push someone off high ground, although that might send them to safety if you don’t follow up.

When it’s useful in a fight

A close-range shot can knock an aggressive player away from you, giving you time to heal, reload or change position. It can also interrupt an opponent who’s trying to hold a narrow doorway or ledge.

Keep a backup weapon ready. The Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol won’t give you a rapid second shot, and the knockback can place your opponent farther away than you expected. If the fight isn’t over, you’ll want something more flexible in your next slot.

What else returned with it?

Suppressed Assault Rifle and Bouncer are also unvaulted in v42.40. Shield Bubble, Legendary Tactical SMG and Zapper Trap are newly added to the OG loot pool, while six earlier items have been vaulted.

Those changes give you more choices during a match. The Fortnite OG Flint-Knock Pistol is a particularly playful one, but you still need a dependable rifle or shotgun for encounters where the recoil isn’t helping.
