Fortnite Match Overrides is now part of the live Fortnitemares 2026 update, and the October 1 rollout has finally replaced the pre-release guesswork with mechanics players can actually look for in Battle Royale.
The Halloween update is layered on top of Chapter 7 Season 4 Override, so Fortnite Match Overrides sits alongside Sprites, Cheat Codes, Loot Hacks and Match Overrides rather than behaving like a completely separate event system. That distinction is useful when you are trying to work out where to find it and why it may not appear in every match or playlist.
New Fortnitemares Match Overrides
Fortnitemares adds Halloween-themed Override effects to the existing Chapter 7 Season 4 system. Epic’s live event description includes Spooky Sprinter, which cloaks you while sprinting, Berserk, which increases your power as health drops, and Spooky Prop Hunt, which disguises you as a Halloween prop.
Other Halloween Override effects can trade shields for additional health or add pumpkin-rocket behaviour while firing weapons. These are event additions to the same Match Override framework, not permanent account unlocks.
How to activate Match Overrides
Match Overrides are activated through Override Consoles during Battle Royale. When an Override event appears, travel to the active console, deal with the danger around it and interact with the console to choose the available effect.
Some effects change rules for the wider lobby while squad-focused Overrides benefit the team that claims them. The available cartridge choices can vary, so you cannot assume a specific Halloween effect will be waiting at every console.
Spooky Sprinter, Berserk and Spooky Prop Hunt
Spooky Sprinter is built around movement and concealment, cloaking the player while sprinting. Berserk changes the risk calculation when health is low by making the player hit harder. Spooky Prop Hunt uses disguise instead, turning the player into a Halloween prop.
Each one changes a different part of a fight. Movement, damage and deception all create different reasons to contest a console, and opponents may also be playing around an active Override once somebody claims it.
Match Overrides versus Loot Hacks and Cheat Codes
Do not confuse Match Overrides with Loot Hacks or Cheat Codes. Match Overrides change match rules through consoles. Loot Hacks alter the loot options available through the season’s Sprite system, while Cheat Codes are another Override-season mechanic with their own interactions.
Fortnitemares deliberately mixes these systems together, which is why the Halloween update can feel much larger than a normal seasonal loot refresh. Check the label on the system you are using before assuming a guide for one mechanic applies to another.
Fortnite Match Overrides is one of the pieces of Fortnitemares worth learning early because the event is running inside an already busy season. Check the live in-game description whenever Epic changes a value or availability rule during October, particularly after the next scheduled content wave.
