The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is expected to return later during OG Season X, transforming the Tilted area into Gotham City and bringing back the special movement rules that made the original Batman crossover so distinctive. The returning Rift Zone is also expected to arrive alongside the Batman Grapnel Gun and Explosive Batarang, recreating the core gameplay from Chapter 1 Season X.
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is not part of the September 3 launch map. Current reporting places Gotham City and its Batman Mythics later in the Season X timeline, while Pandora returns at launch.
What is the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone?
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is a Batman-themed transformation of the Tilted area.
During the original Chapter 1 Season X crossover, Gotham City replaced Tilted Town and changed both the appearance and movement rules of the location.
Instead of behaving like a normal POI, Gotham City became a special Rift Zone where players could move much more freely between rooftops and buildings.
That combination of a themed location, unique movement and exclusive Batman items made Gotham City one of the most memorable Rift Zones from the original Season X.

How does the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone work?
The biggest gameplay effect of the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is unlimited Glider Redeploy while players are inside the area.
This lets players jump from rooftops, drop from tall buildings and redeploy their Glider without needing a separate mobility item.
The effect makes Gotham City extremely vertical compared with most Fortnite locations because players can repeatedly move between street level and rooftops without worrying about fall damage or using a limited Glider item.
It also works particularly well with the Batman Grapnel Gun, which can launch players into the air before transitioning into a glide.
Does Gotham City have unlimited Glider Redeploy?
Yes.
Unlimited Glider Redeploy was the defining gameplay rule of the original Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone.
Players inside Gotham City could jump from buildings and open their Glider repeatedly, allowing much faster movement across the POI.
That made rooftop fights much more common and gave players far more freedom to escape or reposition during combat.
The mechanic also helped Gotham City feel genuinely different from Tilted Town rather than simply being a Batman-themed reskin.

Where is the Gotham City Rift Zone?
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone replaces Tilted Town.
Season X repeatedly changed the Tilted area through Rift Zones, with the location shifting from Neo Tilted to Tilted Town and eventually into Gotham City.
That means players familiar with the central Tilted area of the OG map should know roughly where Gotham will appear once the Rift Zone becomes active.
The change should be one of the most noticeable map transformations later in OG Season X.
When does the Gotham City Rift Zone return?
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is expected later during OG Season X rather than on September 3.
Current reporting places Gotham City and the Batman Mythics together as a later Season X update.
This means players beginning OG Season X on September 3 will initially see other Rift Zone content, including Pandora, before Gotham City eventually joins the map.
The staggered rollout mirrors the original Season X approach, where Rift Zones appeared progressively rather than all being present on day one.
What weapons are in the Gotham City Rift Zone?
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is expected to return with two classic Batman Mythics:
Pull yourself towards a target location and then deploy the Bat Cape!![]()
Batman Grapnel Gun
Rarity DPS Damage Structure Fire Rate Magazine Reload Max Damage Headshot Mythic
The Batman Grapnel Gun provides mobility, allowing players to grapple towards terrain and launch into the air.
The Explosive Batarang is an offensive throwable that can home towards enemies or stick to surfaces and act as a proximity explosive.
Together, the two items give Gotham City a distinctive loot identity alongside its unlimited Glider Redeploy.
How does the Batman Grapnel Gun work in Gotham City?
The Batman Grapnel Gun pairs especially well with the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone.
Firing the Grapnel Gun pulls the player towards a targeted surface before launching them into the air.
The Bat Cape then deploys, allowing the player to glide away.
Because Gotham City already provides unlimited Glider Redeploy, the Grapnel Gun becomes even more useful inside the Rift Zone. Players can rapidly gain height and move between rooftops without relying on normal ground routes.

How does the Explosive Batarang work in Gotham City?
The Explosive Batarang gives players an offensive Batman item to complement the Grapnel Gun.
When thrown towards an enemy, it can home towards the target before exploding.
If it lands on part of the environment instead, the Batarang sticks to the surface and behaves like a proximity explosive.
The tight streets, rooftops and enclosed buildings of the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone give players plenty of opportunities to use those trap mechanics effectively.
Can you take Batman Mythics outside Gotham City?
Yes.
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone provides the special POI effect, but Batman Mythics are inventory items.
Once you obtain the Batman Grapnel Gun or Explosive Batarang, you can leave Gotham City and continue carrying them elsewhere on the Island.
The difference is that unlimited Glider Redeploy only applies while you are inside the Rift Zone.
That means the Grapnel Gun remains useful outside Gotham, but it loses the extra freedom provided by the location’s movement rules.
Is Gotham City replacing Tilted Town permanently?
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone replaces Tilted Town while the Gotham transformation is active.
Season X is built around locations changing through Rift Zones, so the area does not necessarily remain in one form for the entire season.
That constant instability is part of what separates Season X from previous Chapter 1 seasons.
The Tilted area in particular became one of the clearest examples of that, changing repeatedly as the Zero Point destabilised the Island.
Is Gotham City available at the start of OG Season X?
No.
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is expected later in the season.
September 3 instead launches OG Season X with other returning content, including the Pandora Rift Zone, B.R.U.T.E. and Automatic Sniper Rifle. Gotham City and its Batman Mythics follow later.
That gives players a reason to keep returning throughout the season as the OG map continues to change.
Is Gotham City the same as the current Batman content?
No.
Fortnite currently has several different Batman-related experiences.
Chapter 7 Season 4 already includes modern Batman content such as the Bat Cave, Batman Beach Buggy and Batman Grapnel Gun. Epic also has a separate Gotham-themed LEGO Fortnite Odyssey event beginning September 3.
The Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone is specifically the OG Season X recreation of the Chapter 1 Batman crossover.
It is therefore separate from both the modern Battle Royale Batman content and the LEGO Fortnite Gotham event.
Why is Gotham City returning in OG Season X?
Gotham City was one of the defining crossover locations of the original Season X.
The season revolved around Rift Zones bringing altered versions of locations onto the Island, and Gotham City was one of the most dramatic examples.
It completely transformed Tilted Town, added unlimited Glider Redeploy and introduced two exclusive Batman Mythics.
Bringing the Fortnite Gotham City Rift Zone back restores a major part of the original Season X experience rather than simply recreating the map without its crossover content.
When Gotham City eventually activates later in OG Season X, players can expect one of the season’s biggest map changes, with Batman-themed buildings, unlimited Glider Redeploy and the return of the Batman Grapnel Gun and Explosive Batarang.
