Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories and Dismay Explained

Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories is a new battle mechanic that can put your Cookies to Sleep, increase the damage they take and inflict Dismay, preventing normal Healing and Shields from working.

The Consuming Memories Episode Effect appears during the latest Timeline of Fate content and becomes active from the Plains of Oblivion stage. Unlike a normal temporary debuff, allowing the Consuming Memories bar to fill can leave a Cookie affected by Dismay for the remainder of the battle unless you use one of the mechanics specifically designed to remove it.

Understanding how Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories works is therefore important before pushing further into the new stages, particularly if you are relying heavily on conventional healers and Shield effects.

What Is Consuming Memories in Cookie Run Kingdom?

Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories is an Episode Effect that gives each ally a Consuming Memories bar during affected stages.

The bar fills in two ways:

  • When the Cookie attacks enemies
  • When the Cookie takes damage

This means you cannot completely avoid building Consuming Memories simply by creating a defensive team. Your damage dealers can still accumulate it through their own attacks, while frontline Cookies may fill their bars particularly quickly when repeatedly taking damage.

Once a Cookie’s Consuming Memories bar becomes completely full, several effects are triggered.

EffectWhat happens
SleepThe affected Cookie falls asleep
Increased damageThe Cookie takes more damage
DismayThe Cookie receives the Dismay status
Healing blockedNormal Healing can no longer restore the Cookie’s HP
Shields blockedNormal Shields can no longer be applied

Dismay is the most dangerous part of the mechanic because simply bringing a powerful healer does not solve the problem.

What Does Dismay Do in Cookie Run Kingdom?

Dismay prevents an affected Cookie from receiving normal Healing and Shields.

Once Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories fills completely, the affected ally falls asleep, begins taking increased damage and receives Dismay. The Healing and Shield restrictions applied by Dismay remain in place unless the status is removed through one of the special mechanics available in these stages.

This can quickly cause a battle to collapse.

A frontline Cookie affected by Dismay can continue losing HP while your healer is unable to restore it, while damage dealers can become increasingly vulnerable as their health drops.

The solution is therefore to manage Consuming Memories before it overwhelms the entire team rather than relying on Healing after the damage has already been done.

How to Remove Dismay

The main way to remove Dismay is the Bell of the Nether Realm Tactical Skill.

Using the Bell clears both the Consuming Memories bar and Dismay status from every ally at once. It also damages enemies and puts them to Sleep, giving the team additional breathing room after the effect is cleared.

This makes the Bell considerably more valuable than saving it purely for its damage.

If several Cookies are close to filling their Consuming Memories bars, timing the Bell correctly can prevent multiple team members from receiving Dismay.

If Dismay has already been applied, activating the Bell removes it and allows those Cookies to receive normal Healing and Shields again.

How to Get Bell of the Nether Realm Charges

Bell of the Nether Realm is not available for unlimited use.

Defeating enemies imbued with Nether Realm energy adds a Tactical Skill charge, allowing you to activate the Bell again later in the battle or stage.

Because Bell charges are tied to specific enemies, using the Tactical Skill at the right moment is important.

Try not to spend a Bell charge when only one Cookie has accumulated a small amount of Consuming Memories. The ability becomes far more valuable when several Cookies are approaching a full bar or when Dismay has already affected important members of the team.

Nether Queen Cookie Counters Consuming Memories

Nether Queen Cookie has a major advantage in stages using the Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories mechanic.

Nether Queen Cookie is immune to Consuming Memories, meaning she does not suffer the same progression towards Sleep and Dismay as other Cookies.

She can also Heal allies or provide Shields to Cookies that already have Dismay. This bypasses one of the mechanic’s biggest restrictions, since normal Healing and Shields are otherwise blocked.

Nether Queen therefore provides two major benefits:

Nether Queen advantageEffect
Immune to Consuming MemoriesCannot gain Dismay through the mechanic
Can support Dismayed alliesHer Healing and Shields can still affect them

There is another benefit when using Nether Queen alongside the Bell of the Nether Realm.

If Nether Queen Cookie is on the team when the Tactical Skill is activated, allies receive increased damage, giving the Bell additional offensive value.

Asphodel Cookie Slows Consuming Memories

Asphodel Cookie is another particularly useful choice for these stages.

While Asphodel is not completely immune in the same way as Nether Queen, she greatly slows the rate at which allies’ Consuming Memories bars fill.

Asphodel also receives increased ATK and DMG Dampening while fighting within the Nether Realm and applies useful benefits across the team.

This makes Asphodel useful if you are struggling to reach a Bell charge before several Cookies receive Dismay.

Slower Consuming Memories accumulation gives you more time to defeat enemies, earn Tactical Skill charges and activate the Bell before the team becomes vulnerable.

Defeating Nether Realm Enemies Can Restore HP

There is one additional way to keep Cookies affected by Dismay alive.

Defeating enemies imbued with Nether Realm energy restores HP to allies that have received the Dismay status.

This matters because conventional Healing is blocked while Dismay remains active.

Aggressive play can therefore sometimes be safer than trying to stall the fight. Eliminating the correct enemies can restore HP while also generating charges for Bell of the Nether Realm, eventually allowing you to clear Dismay completely.

Best Way to Deal With Consuming Memories

The easiest way to manage Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories is to build around the mechanic rather than treating it as a normal debuff.

Use these priorities during affected stages:

  1. Include Nether Queen Cookie if available.
  2. Use Asphodel Cookie to slow Consuming Memories accumulation.
  3. Watch the Consuming Memories bars throughout the battle.
  4. Defeat Nether Realm-infused enemies to restore HP and gain Bell charges.
  5. Save Bell of the Nether Realm until it can clear significant Consuming Memories or Dismay.
  6. Do not rely entirely on conventional Healing or Shields once Dismay has been applied.

The biggest mistake is allowing Cookie Run Kingdom Consuming Memories to fill across most of the team and then attempting to heal through the resulting damage.

Once Dismay is active, normal Healing and Shields stop working. Nether Queen Cookie, Nether Realm enemy defeats and Bell of the Nether Realm are specifically designed to give you ways around that restriction.

Keeping an eye on the Consuming Memories bars and using the Bell at the right time makes the new Timeline of Fate stages considerably easier to control.
