Apex Legends Strongholds are new high-risk Air Drops coming with Season 31: Cipher on 3 November 2026. One drops into each Battle Royale match, alongside ordinary Care Packages. It arrives locked, and your squad has to capture and hold the surrounding area before collecting the valuable equipment inside.
Strongholds are deliberately difficult to claim without a fight. Enemy squads can contest the capture, a loud alarm draws attention to anyone unlocking the structure, and the landing site changes from match to match. The reward includes Care Package weapons, gold guns, EVO, corrupted attachments and other rare loot.
Apex Legends Strongholds: how to open them

Watch for the new Air Drop during a match, then move towards its location if your team wants to fight for the loot. Once it lands, the structure is locked. Players must capture and hold the space surrounding it before opening the container. It’s a position to defend, not a container you can empty on the move.
This makes Apex Legends Strongholds different from normal supply bins or Care Packages. A squad must occupy and defend the objective instead of just racing to touch it first. Enemy players entering the area can contest the capture, so work as a group and keep an eye on the routes opponents might use.
Where do Apex Legends Strongholds spawn?
Respawn says there is one Stronghold per match, in addition to the ordinary Care Packages already in Battle Royale. These are dynamic drops rather than fixed vault rooms built into a map. The exact landing area can change from game to game, altering how safely you can reach it.
The local terrain and position of the ring also influence the value of the drop. A Stronghold near your team’s route might be worth contesting, while a distant one across exposed ground may be a bad detour. Watch the drop’s position in the current match and decide whether your team can reach and defend it.
Apex Legends Strongholds loot and rewards

EA confirms high-tier loot, including Care Package weapons and gold guns, inside the new structure. The initial season update also lists EVO and corrupted attachments. Those rewards can improve a squad’s fighting ability during the match, which is why other teams have an incentive to challenge the capture.
Stronghold rewards are equipment for the current match, not permanent account cosmetics. Don’t confuse them with the Cryptic Core Mythic Volt skin sold through seasonal packs. You are fighting for loot that can make the next engagement easier, provided your squad survives long enough to carry it away.
Apex Legends Strongholds: alarms, Hardlight and cover
Opening a Stronghold sets off a loud alarm. That alerts players in the area to an active loot opportunity and can bring a third squad into an ongoing battle. Even a team that controls the first approach can be attacked while trying to finish the capture and claim its rewards.
Respawn gives Strongholds dynamic cover and Hardlight around the landing area. These features provide some protection for the team holding the space, but opponents can use sightlines and positioning against you. When playing Apex Legends Strongholds, leave someone watching approaches instead of letting the entire squad face the locked container.
Can enemy squads steal a Stronghold?
Yes. Other squads can contest the capture and try to take the rewards. A Stronghold isn’t reserved for the first team that gets there. If another squad arrives while you’re unlocking it, you’ll need to defend your position or risk losing control of the loot objective.
You can also decide not to rush in immediately. Because the alarm and high-tier rewards draw attention, another team may expose itself by beginning the capture. The Apex Legends Strongholds mechanic creates choices about when to fight, when to wait and whether the reward is worth leaving a safer route.
Best way to prepare for Strongholds
Check your healing, ammunition and team positions before making the push. Work out who will watch each approach, and pay attention to the ring so that the capture doesn’t leave you trapped. A Legend who can gather information, such as the reworked Crypto, can be particularly helpful when several teams may be heading for the same location.
