Fortnite Pirate Chest Location: Can You Open the Giant Chest?

Fortnite Pirate Chest Location
Fortnite Pirate Chest Location

The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location was in the lagoon east of Sunken Shores and south of Mega Maze on the old Override Battle Royale map. The giant, gold-trimmed chest was a season teaser, not a normal loot Chest, and those directions don’t work on the current Treasure Hunters island.

Treasure Hunters launched on November 1 with a different island, Crossbones Isle. Epic has also teased Captain X’s mega chest as part of the new season. The October 30 announcement doesn’t give that mystery chest a map location, so don’t mistake the old Override landmark directions for a new-season treasure map.

Where is the Fortnite Pirate Chest Location?

On the Override map, head east of Sunken Shores and south of Mega Maze. The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location is right in the lagoon: look for a huge chest rising from the water. It’s much bigger than the usual supply chests, so you won’t need a key or a complicated route to spot it.

On the old Override map, players reached the Fortnite Pirate Chest Location by landing at Sunken Shores and heading east, or travelling south from Mega Maze. Those are historical directions for anyone revisiting footage of the teaser; the landmark is not a current Crossbones Isle loot destination.

Can you open the giant pirate chest?

You can’t open the giant Override chest for loot. It isn’t a supply chest or vault, and approaching it doesn’t give you a free One Piece Outfit. Its purpose was to draw attention to the approaching pirate-themed season.

The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location is worth visiting to see the teaser up close, not to farm V-Bucks or unlock Luffy. There is no chest-opening challenge to complete, so you can get on with your Battle Royale match after taking a look.

Is it Captain X’s mega chest from Treasure Hunters?

Epic’s October 30 announcement hints at the contents of Captain X’s mega chest, one of the mysteries of Treasure Hunters. That’s a tease for the new season, not directions for finding the old Override chest. The article doesn’t establish that the two appearances are the same interactive object.

The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location above refers to the Override lagoon. Crossbones Isle, the new 80-player Battle Royale island, features Arlong Park and Windmill Village. Those are the landmarks to look for from November 1. Our Captain X guide covers the new teaser.

Is the giant chest linked to Map Fragments or Pirate Shop Access?

There are several different Chests in Treasure Hunters, and they shouldn’t be mixed up. Ordinary loot Chests are where players report finding the rare Pirate Shop Access bonus. The numbered Chest-opening quests and the buried Sprite Chests found through Wanted Posters are separate activities, covered in our Treasure Hunt rewards guide.

Map Fragments are another treasure trail, with A$AP Rocky’s ship among the reported locations. Reports of a reward for collecting six fragments do not confirm that the fragments open Captain X’s enormous chained Chest. Epic has teased the mega chest’s contents, but not published a verified way to open it. For the character and ongoing mystery, see our Captain X guide.

Does the chest give One Piece skins?

Epic has listed separate routes for the crossover cosmetics. Luffy, Nami and Usopp enter the Shop with the season on November 1. Zoro, Sanji and the Chopper Sidekick arrive on November 7, followed by Buggy on November 13. Ace and Nico Robin feature in the Treasure Hunters Battle Pass. Chopper is a Sidekick, not a wearable Outfit.

The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location won’t unlock any of them. Luffy and the other Shop characters have their own listings, while Ace and Robin are part of the Battle Pass. Our One Piece skins guide has the full release calendar.

Is the giant pirate chest still on the current map?

Treasure Hunters launched on Sunday, November 1 at 2 PM GMT (9 AM ET). Players will move to Crossbones Isle, where cannons provide fast travel, and Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit and Zoro’s Three Sword Style appear among the new combat powers. A$AP Rocky also has a battleship point of interest and Shock Rocket.

The Fortnite Pirate Chest Location directions in this guide apply to the old map. With Treasure Hunters live, use our Crossbones Isle map guide instead. Captain’s Days are scheduled across November 1, 7, 12, 14 and 21, adding weapons, Sprites and more across the season.

Why is the giant chest missing?

Check which island and mode you have loaded. The lagoon east of Sunken Shores is an Override landmark, so those directions do not apply to Reload, Creative maps or the new Treasure Hunters island. If you are playing after the seasonal switch, look for Treasure Hunters content on Crossbones Isle rather than searching for the old prop.

Those Sunken Shores directions are for Override. From November 1, Treasure Hunters moves the action to Crossbones Isle, where Captain X’s mega chest is part of the new mystery, not a promised free-skin giveaway.
