Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup: How to Catch the Costume in 2026

Pokémon GO Halloween 2026 Part I

Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup is back in the wild for Halloween 2026 Part I. The returning costumed Pokémon appears from October 27 at 10am local time until November 1 at 10am, and Niantic confirms that it can be Shiny. You don’t need a Raid Pass or paid GO Pass upgrade to find it.

This costume is different from the new bow-wearing Sinistea and hat-and-capelet Pikachu, both of which feature in raids. Piplup is a wild encounter, giving you the chance to check more than one while you explore. Here’s when it appears, what to look for and how to handle evolution if you want to keep the costume.

How to find Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup

The confirmed method is wild encounters during Halloween Part I. Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup shares the event’s spawn pool with other featured Pokémon, including costumed Zubat. Walk around places where Pokémon normally spawn, tap the Piplup you find and check that you’re looking at the Halloween Mischief outfit before catching it.

Niantic hasn’t announced a fixed appearance percentage or a specific place where Piplup will always spawn. An area with several accessible spawn points offers more opportunities to check, but the costume isn’t guaranteed on demand. Our Halloween wild spawns guide lists the other Pokémon you can encounter while hunting.

Halloween Mischief Piplup dates and UK times

Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup is featured from Tuesday, October 27 at 10am until Sunday, November 1 at 10am local time. The UK switches from BST to GMT on October 25, so both event times are GMT. The Halloween Part II wild rotation begins immediately when Part I finishes.

This is why the Halloween Part I guide is the right starting point for Piplup. Our Part II guide focuses on Pokémon featured after November 1, including Shiny Greavard’s debut.

Can Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup be Shiny?

Yes. The official event announcement marks this costume as Shiny eligible. Niantic has not published a numerical Shiny rate for this costume, so no particular number of encounters guarantees a Shiny. If you already have a regular Shiny Piplup, it doesn’t automatically gain the Halloween outfit; you need to encounter the costumed version itself.

When you find a Shiny Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup, check its appearance and summary before transferring other catches. Collectors who want every Shiny costume will want to preserve this particular version, rather than treating it as interchangeable with an ordinary Shiny Piplup.

Can Halloween Mischief Piplup evolve?

Ordinary Piplup evolves into Prinplup for 25 Piplup Candy, then Empoleon for another 100 Candy. The Halloween 2026 announcement doesn’t specify how this costume evolves. Check the evolution button and preview on the Pokémon you catch before spending Candy. Check the evolution button and preview on your own Pokémon before spending Candy.

Our Piplup reference and Prinplup guide explain the ordinary species’ progression. Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup is a costume collectible, and earlier costume evolution rules aren’t enough to establish its current behaviour. Keeping one unevolved copy protects the original outfit while the in-game mechanic is checked.

Is Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup in raids?

The official Halloween Part I raid list highlights Pikachu in a hat and capelet and Sinistea wearing a bow as one-star bosses. Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup is instead included among the wild encounters. There may be extra research rewards when the event launches, but Niantic hasn’t published a full task-by-task table that verifies a Piplup reward.

For the distinction between returning and new costumes, see our Halloween costume Pokémon guide. Piplup is confirmed as a wild encounter, so concentrate on checking wild spawns rather than the listed one-star raid bosses.

Does the Halloween GO Pass help with Piplup catches?

The Halloween GO Pass gives bonuses for catching Pokémon. At Rank 10, free players unlock twice the usual catch Candy, while Deluxe players get triple. Rank 20 similarly unlocks double catch Stardust or triple with Deluxe. Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup catches benefit from these unlocked catch multipliers, but the bonuses don’t promise more costume encounters or better Shiny odds.

You receive the free pass automatically during Halloween. Spending $7.99 on Deluxe is optional, and no part of the announcement makes it a requirement for wild costumed Piplup. If you’re catching many Pokémon while searching, earning the free rank bonuses early can still be worthwhile.

Why can’t I find the Halloween Mischief costume?

First check the date. The Part I featured spawn window runs from October 27 to November 1. If you’re playing after Part II begins, the new wild list doesn’t specifically include this costume. During the correct dates, Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup shares spawn space with other species, so you may simply need to check more encounters.

Check fresh wild encounters as you explore instead of returning to the same already-checked Pokémon. Verify the Halloween outfit on the actual encounter, since ordinary Piplup caught previously won’t suddenly gain it. If your goal is a Shiny, remember there is no confirmed guaranteed number of checks.

Other things to collect during Halloween Part I

The event also brings top-hat Zubat, costumed raid encounters and Trick or Treat surprises. Those activities can complement your hunt without replacing its confirmed wild encounter method. After November 1, Shiny Greavard is a different priority in the second phase.

For Pokémon GO Halloween Mischief Piplup collectors, the simplest plan is to focus on Part I, save your preferred costume catches and then switch to the new Part II spawns when the rotation changes.
