Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key is needed to open the locked bedroom inside the Haunted Mansion during the 2026 Haunted Floating Festival. You need two Haunted Key Fragments, but the game sends you on two separate little mysteries to find them. One involves following a ghostly fox around the house, while the other involves a pair of red chests and four unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns.

The Haunted Mansion opened on 7 October, bringing new puzzles to the returning Halloween island. The Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key is your way into the bedroom, where the Haunted Library, Release the Curse and hidden basement challenges continue. If you’ve found a fragment but can’t work out what you’re missing, the route below covers both sides of the puzzle.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key: where to begin

Enter the Haunted Floating Festival through the portal in the Plaza or by selecting Teleport in the Event menu. Walk into the Haunted Mansion, then look around the main room. You’ll find the crafting station, a storage room off to the left and a hallway ahead leading to the locked bedroom. Keep your Royal Pickaxe handy, because a lion statue holds a key for one of the chests.

First Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key Fragment: follow the ghostly fox

The first Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key fragment comes from the white ghostly fox inside the mansion. Begin in the hallway near the locked bedroom door. When you approach, the fox vanishes, but it hasn’t gone for good. It reappears elsewhere in the building and you need to follow it each time.

Look for the fox near the rear of the hallway, then toward the front, in the entrance room beside the sparkling book, in the left-hand storage room, near the crafting station and finally in the back of the storage room near a red chest. After the last encounter it drops a Haunted Key Fragment. Collect it from the floor.

The fox doesn’t need feeding or befriending like a normal companion. If you lose sight of it during this Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key hunt, look around the entrance, hallway and storage room again. It moves between those indoor areas while the puzzle is active.

Second Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key Fragment: four Jack-o’-Lanterns

The other Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key fragment is your reward for lighting four Jack-o’-Lanterns. Each one needs a Jack-o’-Candle, and the mansion contains exactly four of these event candles across two red chests. Both chests are in the room on the left as you enter the mansion.

Find the first two Jack-o’-Candles

Turn left from the main room and look near the hanging wall shelves just inside the storage room. Open the first red chest to collect two Jack-o’-Candles. These are special items for the festival puzzle, so you won’t need to gather wax or craft ordinary candles back at home.

Get the Red Festival Key and open the second chest

Return to the main entrance and head straight down the hallway. Find the lion statue with a key in its mouth and break it using your Royal Pickaxe. Pick up the Red Festival Key it drops, then go back to the storage room and open the locked red chest in its rear corner. Inside are the other two Jack-o’-Candles.

If you can only find two candles while doing the Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key puzzle, this is probably the step you’ve missed. The second chest needs the Red Festival Key, which comes from the breakable statue rather than the fox.

Light the four pumpkins

With all four candles, check the accessible rooms inside the mansion for the unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns. They’re spread around the entrance, storage and hallway areas. Interact with each pumpkin to put one candle inside. When you light the fourth one, another Haunted Key Fragment drops to the ground. Pick it up before heading to the crafting station.

How to craft the Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key

Take both fragments to the crafting station in the entrance room and open its Event recipes. Craft the Repaired Haunted Key using the two Haunted Key Fragments. Once it’s made, walk down the hallway and interact with the locked bedroom door at the far end. The key opens the bedroom and lets you move on to the new Haunted Mansion challenges.

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key crafting recipe requires the two fragments only. You get one from chasing the fox and one from lighting all four pumpkins. The Red Festival Key is a separate item that simply opens the candle chest.

What unlocks after the Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key?

In the bedroom you’ll find the starting book for the Haunted Library puzzle, which involves moving books onto different shelves to reveal the story and earn a Chomping Chest. The Release the Curse puzzle also takes place in this part of the mansion and awards a Decorative Magic Seal when you restore the missing page.

Before leaving, check the lion statue near the bookstand in the bedroom. Breaking it reveals the Eerie Basement Door Key. You can then go outside the mansion, find the basement entrance and open its reward chest for an Eerie Basement Door furniture item.

There’s no need to wait for the final event challenge to finish the Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key puzzle. These Haunted Mansion rooms opened on 7 October 2026. The separate Ghost Hunt begins on 18 October, and the Haunted Floating Festival closes on 31 October.

Related Guides

Once the Disney Dreamlight Valley Haunted Key is repaired, you can stop searching the first three rooms and concentrate on the bedroom puzzles. The ghostly fox is the trickier fragment to keep track of, but everything you need is inside the mansion, and both pieces can be collected in one visit.
