You can play Battlefield 6 for free during the October 2026 trial on PlayStation and Steam. EA’s Season 5 promotion gives players access to the available multiplayer maps and modes, including the new Las Vegas battlegrounds, without buying the full game.
The trial is advertised for October 15–19, but PlayStation actually opens a day earlier and Steam starts later. If you’re hoping to play Battlefield 6 for free this week, the exact platform hours matter just as much as the download. Here’s what to install, when to launch and what you’ll be able to play.
How to play Battlefield 6 for free on PlayStation and Steam

To play Battlefield 6 for free, open your platform’s Battlefield 6 listing once its trial goes live. EA says Battlefield REDSEC and the current updates are needed, so download or update the free Battlefield client before trying to join multiplayer.
- PlayStation 5: Find Battlefield 6 in the PlayStation Store. When the promotion begins, choose the trial/free-access option rather than buying a paid edition. Install the required game files and updates.
- Steam: Open the Battlefield 6 store listing and select the free trial when it becomes available. Install or update Battlefield REDSEC if prompted.
- Sign in: Use your usual EA Account and link your PlayStation or Steam account when asked. This is important if you plan to continue playing later.
- Start a match: Launch Battlefield 6, open its multiplayer menu and select an available playlist. No separate trial code is advertised.
If REDSEC is already installed, you shouldn’t have to start again from scratch. Update it and look for the promotional access once your platform’s window opens. This October trial is listed for PlayStation and Steam, not Xbox, even though REDSEC itself is available on other platforms.
Battlefield 6 free trial start and end times in the UK
EA’s October promotion has different opening and closing hours by platform. To play Battlefield 6 for free without missing any time, use these UK BST dates rather than assuming everyone starts on October 15.
| Platform | UK start time | UK end time |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | 14 October, 4pm BST | 19 October, 9pm BST |
| Steam | 15 October, 6pm BST | 19 October, 6pm BST |
Those are converted from EA’s published UTC times: PlayStation runs from October 14 at 15:00 UTC until October 19 at 20:00 UTC; Steam runs from October 15 at 17:00 UTC until October 19 at 17:00 UTC. The publisher says times can change or differ by storefront, so check the live trial listing if access is slow to appear.
What maps and modes can you play for free?
The September free week offered four selected maps. October’s trial opens up the available Battlefield 6 multiplayer maps and modes instead, so you can play Battlefield 6 for free across a much broader rotation. You’re not limited to the older Wake Island, Tsuru Reef, Cairo Bazaar and Hagental Base trial selection.
Season 5 launched on October 13 with two new maps. Vegas Strip takes you through casinos, streets and hotels, with armoured vehicles and helicopters fighting outside. Area 51 mixes desert combat and aircraft with tight battles inside the secret facility. These join the existing multiplayer map lineup.

You can play Battlefield 6 for free in the currently available multiplayer modes, including the big objective battles that Battlefield is known for. Land, air and naval combat are accessible where the map and playlist support them. If you want to test a particular vehicle type, choose a map built around that style of fighting; not every vehicle spawns in every match.
Battlefield 6 free trial requirements
You don’t need to purchase the base game to play Battlefield 6 for free, but you do need a persistent internet connection and an EA Account. The trial is limited to one use per EA Account, and EA warns that a PlayStation subscription or premium platform account may be required.
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam for this October offer.
- Downloads: Battlefield REDSEC, the latest game updates and any additional files requested by the trial.
- Accounts: Your EA Account and the relevant platform account, linked where prompted.
- PC minimum on Steam: Windows 10 64-bit, 16GB RAM, Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, plus RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT 6GB or Arc A380 graphics.
- PC security and space: Steam lists TPM 2.0, UEFI Secure Boot and at least 55GB free storage for Battlefield 6. Updates may need extra room.
Steam also requires an EA account link to play. If you can download the game but it won’t launch, check the PC hardware and security requirements before assuming the free trial itself is broken.
What happens after October 19?
The full-game trial access ends when your platform’s timer runs out. After that, REDSEC remains permanently free, while paid Battlefield 6 content requires ownership. You can play Battlefield 6 for free during the promotion, but it isn’t a permanent game giveaway.
Keep using the same EA Account if you decide to buy the game. Our free trial progress carry-over guide explains what happens to your progression. EA says purchases made during the trial won’t be refunded just because the promotional access ends.
Free trial not working or still showing a purchase price?
If the store asks you to pay when you’re trying to play Battlefield 6 for free, don’t buy the game just to get past that screen. Check the platform-specific start time first: Steam’s access doesn’t begin until October 15 at 6pm BST.
- Check the right store: The October trial is advertised for PlayStation and Steam.
- Wait until the offer begins: Restart the storefront or game if the free option hasn’t appeared at the announced start time.
- Install all updates: Battlefield REDSEC and the latest update need to be ready before joining.
- Use the correct EA Account: Access is once per EA Account, and a console subscription may be needed.
Once the free option appears, you can play Battlefield 6 for free until your platform’s October 19 deadline. It’s another chance to play Battlefield 6 for free before deciding whether to buy it. Start with the large maps if you’re after vehicles, or try the tighter infantry routes around Vegas Strip to get used to the shooting.
