What started as a grim tale used to scare children from wandering off their houses at Freljord turned out to be the most disturbing entity raising itself from untended graves. Its name is known in every corner of Runeterra – Demacia. Ixtal. Piltover. Ionia. Shurima, yet none dare to speak its name.

According to the lore of this ancient fear, it was summoned by a budding but naive young mage in a tower by the edge of the sea. It was an unfathomable creature with a body of shambling helmets, bucklers, furs, and wood.

Fiddlesticks, the mere mention of its name, could cause travelers to vanish from the intertwining footpaths and could end the patrols of guards stationed at the edges of the kingdom. Perhaps the most terrifying of all of these – it is real.

For seasoned players of League of Legends, Fiddlesticks is a known champion with a Jungler role. Some will likely use it as a support when more physically dominant champions are in the same team, like Rengar, Eve, or Shaco. However, there have been times when it is used as an assassin, banking on an opposing team with poor map vision.

With the recent patch, LoL V12.13, there have been several buffs the champion has gone through:

The duration of his passive (Fear) after casting Terrify (his Q) has been increased to 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.25 seconds from 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2. Suppose Fiddlesticks is not on active mode for at least 2.5 seconds and is not visible to the enemy team, either hiding from the bushes or pretending to be an Effigy. In that case, its next damaging ability will additionally fear targets hit for a duration.

Additionally, its Crowstorm was buffed so that the base damage per tick increases to 37.5 / 62.5 / 87.5 from 31.25 / 56.25 / 81.25. With this skill activated, a murder of crows will barrage the opponent that causes magic damage. This will also blink the user to the target location.

With updates happening on the preseason of 2023 focusing mainly on Junglers, there is a good chance that Fiddlesticks would get more buffs as the numbers show that the champion has dwindling users. The updates also promise a pet system. Seeing Fiddlesticks running around the map with a pet would be eerie.

Perhaps what’s most prominent with Fiddlesticks is its voice-over and interaction with other champions. Like how it says, “Annie, don’t let go.” This is in reference to Annie’s stepsister as she drowns after falling into a river. It gets creepier; if Fiddlesticks is against Miss Fortune, it would shout in a gnarling voice, “Hide! Sarah, Hide! Sarah, Sarah!” If you read the lore of Miss Fortune, you will know that her real name is Sarah, and Fiddlesticks is actually mimicking Sarah’s parents as they ask her to hide when they were murdered.

There is more voice-over and interactions with other champions. This demon can scare players in real life and in the land of Runeterra.

League of Legends is available now on PC.
