The Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest is one of the Treasure Hunters Week 2 challenges, worth 20,000 XP. Twenty items sounds easy enough. The annoying part is finding a Vault Key first, then getting through the door before someone else makes off with the loot.
We’d love to point you to one guaranteed Vault Key and tell you to help yourself. If only. For the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault challenge, we’d open Chests until a key appears, follow its in-game marker and collect everything useful once we’re inside. Here are the locations and the route we’d actually choose.
Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault: how to complete the quest
To loot 20 items from a vault, you need to unlock a Treasure Hunters vault and pick up items from inside it. You aren’t being asked to open 20 vaults or find 20 keys. The quest counts item pickups, and it doesn’t specify that all 20 have to be collected in one match.
- Open regular and rare Chests until you find a Vault Key. You can also take one from an eliminated player carrying a key.
- Equip the key and look for the vault marker on your map.
- Head towards the marked vault. Some are tucked underground or behind hidden entrances.
- Interact with the vault door to use your key. It’s consumed when the door opens.
- Open the Chests inside and pick up their loot. Check the quest counter and continue on later vault visits until you reach 20.
If you’re working on the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest, we’d keep some inventory space free before opening the door. That’s not a secret trick, just common sense: rummaging around for something to drop while another team is approaching is a miserable way to lose a vault full of loot.
All reported Treasure Hunters vault locations
Most current location guides agree on nine main vault areas across Crossbones Isle. The exact entrance isn’t always visible from the road, so use this table for orientation and your key’s marker for the final approach. Epic’s official POI map doesn’t pin the vault doors.

| Vault | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Rubber Resort | Beach on the west or south side of the resort |
| Loot Lagoon | Behind the waterfall south of the lagoon |
| Fort Fortuna / Fortune’s Fort | Under or inside the northeastern fort, around Lil’ Uzi’s Stronghold |
| Lantern Lanes | East of the POI, below or beside its buildings |
| Cursed Cavern | Structure west of the cavern |
| The $.$. Rocky | On A$AP Rocky’s battleship |
| Windmill Village | In a cliff outside the village; reports disagree on the exact side |
| Loguetown | Underground sewer or aqueduct tunnels |
| Busy Bay | Cliff on the southern side of the POI |
A little naming confusion is worth clearing up. Epic calls the northeastern fort Fort Fortuna; other guides call it Fortune’s Fort. The map labels its wider area Lil’ Uzi’s Stronghold. Those aren’t three separate vaults.
Some maps also show a vault under Plunder Port, while others say there isn’t one. Windmill Village’s cliff entrance is described on different sides too. We’re not going to pretend those conflicting pins are exact. For the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest, trust the location highlighted by your key rather than a random image online.
How to find Vault Keys quickly
Vault Keys are random Chest loot, so no landing spot guarantees one. Normal and rare Chests can drop them, and a defeated opponent may already have a key in their inventory. There’s no point running straight to a locked vault without finding a way in.
Our choice for a key hunt would be somewhere with several reachable Chests, such as Loot Lagoon, Rubber Resort or Loguetown. A Fortune Sprite reveals nearby Chests, which helps you find more loot opportunities. It does not promise a Vault Key.
Once one turns up, we’d stop searching aimlessly and make a plan around its map marker. The Storm and other players can ruin an otherwise decent run, so don’t take a huge detour just because your favourite vault is on the other side of the island.

Our best vault route: Loot Lagoon
For the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest, we’d choose Loot Lagoon as our first try. It’s not a lucky vault with special drop odds. We like it because the entrance has a memorable landmark: the waterfall on the south side of the lagoon, with a hidden area behind it.
We’d land nearby, clear the available Chests, then check the highlighted vault if a key drops. Look behind the waterfall for the way in. Just remember that an obvious landmark is also easy for other players to find. If the whole lobby is there, move on rather than fight over an empty room.
Loguetown would be our backup, especially on a southern bus route. Loot the buildings first and head for the sewer or aqueduct system beneath town when you have a key. If your key points somewhere else, follow it instead. We wouldn’t sacrifice a good match for the sake of our preferred route.
What items count towards the quest?
For the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest, focus on the weapons and other usable items dropped by the Chests inside a locked vault. These vaults are reported to contain three Rare Chests and one Sprite Chest, giving you multiple pickups to work with.
Opening a Chest isn’t the same as collecting its contents. The Treasure Hunt Chest quests count Chest openings; this Week 2 task counts loot. We wouldn’t bank on ammo being counted automatically or on repeatedly dropping and picking up the same weapon. Take the actual loot and watch the quest tracker register it.
Don’t be surprised if one visit doesn’t provide all 20 items. That’s why we’d treat the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault objective as something to work through over several vault visits, not a reason to stay in an empty room hoping more items will appear.
Does the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest require one match?
No, the task doesn’t include a single-match condition. That’s the important difference from extracting three Sprites in one match, which explicitly demands all three in the same game. Current Week 2 guides report that vault-looting progress carries across matches, so check your running counter and build towards 20.
Why isn’t the vault quest counting?
If your Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault counter isn’t moving, we’d check three things: did you actually enter a key-locked vault, did you pick up loot from inside, and was the vault already cleared by another player? Opening Chests elsewhere on the map isn’t the same thing.
There’s no need to force another run without checking the tracker first. Take a weapon or consumable from inside a vault and look for an increase, rather than assuming every ammo stack or repeated pickup has been credited.
What do you earn for finishing?
Finishing the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest earns 20,000 XP and another Weekly Quest completion towards the Captain X milestone rewards. Those cosmetic milestones require the Treasure Hunters Battle Pass, so they’re separate from the XP you earn for the objective.
We’d keep this one simple: find a key, follow the map marker, unlock the vault and take the loot. Repeat until you’ve hit 20. For us, that’s a much more enjoyable way to tackle the Fortnite loot 20 items from a vault quest than spending match after match staring at a locked door with no key.
