Brawl Stars Counterlight: Two-Round Rules, Capture Sites and How to Win

Brawl Stars Counterlight is a two-round objective mode where both teams get a turn to attack. One team tries to set Blue Lights on the red side of the map, then the other tries to set Red Lights on the opposite side. The team that captures its objective faster wins. If neither side manages to complete a capture, the match is a draw.

There are two possible capture sites, each containing three separate points. You only need to complete one site, but standing on different points helps capture progress move faster. The mode rewards coordination more than simply piling everyone onto the same spot.

Brawl Stars Counterlight rules: how the two rounds work

The first round sets the benchmark. The attacking team heads to the opposing side of the map and tries to capture its lights as quickly as it can. The defenders’ job is to stop that progress or make the attackers take longer than they’d like.

In the second round, the teams reverse roles. The other side now has its own chance to capture. If it completes the objective faster than the first team, it wins. If it fails to beat the first time, it loses. When neither team manages a capture at all, the result is a draw.

This means the opening round is important even if you aren’t currently attacking. A strong defensive effort can set up a manageable target for your team’s later push. The victory condition isn’t based on a raw elimination total or controlling every area of the map at once.

Brawl Stars Counterlight: which capture site should you choose?

Each side has two sites to choose between, and only one needs to be captured. Each site includes three individual capture points. The more teammates standing on different capture points, the faster your team’s progress goes, according to Supercell.

Spreading out completely isn’t always wise if an opponent can pick players off one at a time. The real decision is how many separate points you can safely occupy while protecting one another. Winning a quick fight at the site can create just enough room for several teammates to stand on different spots.

You also need to consider the route into a site. If one approach is heavily defended, attacking the other site gives the defending team something new to deal with. That tactical choice is part of the mode’s design; the two-site system gives attackers an alternative rather than requiring both locations to be completed.

How to capture faster in Brawl Stars Counterlight

Start by looking at which capture point each teammate is likely to occupy. If everyone follows the same player, the team won’t get the full benefit of multiple unique points. Positioning one player on each safe point is more useful than three people fighting for identical space when the route is open.

Defenders can disrupt this by keeping opponents off at least one of those points, forcing the attacking team into slower progress. A Brawler with area denial can make a route uncomfortable, while a teammate with reliable pressure can stop enemies from settling onto a capture point.

The first team’s capture time becomes the number to beat. If you’re attacking second, avoid desperate individual rushes that spend the whole round respawning or regrouping. Coordinated pressure is generally more useful than arriving one at a time and being removed from the site immediately.

What happens if neither team captures?

The official rules are clear: if neither team completes a capture, the match ends in a draw. If one team captures and the other does not, the non-capturing team has failed to beat the benchmark. You don’t need to score extra eliminations to settle the result.

Supercell did not provide a confirmed team size, a universal time limit, or an exact capture-speed formula in its November patch notes. The confirmed rules are the two rounds, two available sites, three points per site and the time to beat.

Brawl Stars Counterlight FAQ

Do both sites need to be captured? No, completing one of the two is enough. Does standing together speed up progress? Progress increases with players occupying different capture points, not simply standing on the same point. Do teams switch sides? Both teams receive an attacking round. What if nobody captures? The game ends in a draw.

If you remember one thing about Brawl Stars Counterlight, make it the time trial. Capturing is important, but doing it quickly while making the other team work harder is what decides the result.
