Genshin Impact Grand Defense is Version 7.2’s major relief event, officially named The Grand Defense: Defy the Unjust Judgment. As the Holy Soil spreads across Teyvat, players will help in three operation types: Emergency Rescue, Securing Air Supremacy and Tactical Sweep.
HoYoverse says the event runs throughout Version 7.2 and offers Primogems, a Crown of Insight and an invitation to choose one four-star character. It is connected to Snezhnaya’s Archon Quest, but eligible players also have a Quick Start option.
Genshin Impact Grand Defense start date and duration
The Grand Defense becomes available with Version 7.2 after the planned 4 November 2026 update, with its content tied to the unfolding Chapter VII story. The announcement says the event remains available throughout the version, rather than closing after a single weekend.
HoYoverse has not stated that every event stage immediately opens the second maintenance ends. Event activities unfold as the Chapter VII, Act VI story develops, so open the event page to check which relief operations are currently accessible on your account.
Genshin Impact Grand Defense eligibility and Quick Start
You need Adventure Rank 20 or higher. The recommended story progress is Archon Quest Chapter VII, Act IV, A Rekviem for the Underworld, because the event is tied to that storyline and progresses with Chapter VII, Act VI, A Yesterday Sent From Beyond.
There is also Quick Start for players at AR 20 who finished Prologue, Act III, Song of the Dragon and Freedom. Use the event page to activate it if you haven’t completed the Snezhnaya story. Quick Start grants access to eligible event content but does not replace the narrative context of the later quests.
Emergency Rescue: helping those affected by the Holy Soil
Emergency Rescue is one of the three Genshin Impact Grand Defense activities. HoYoverse’s wider launch announcement describes rescuing wounded soldiers and responding to the Holy Soil calamity as it spreads across Teyvat.
Once the event opens, select Emergency Rescue from its menu and follow the objectives shown in your game. Exact rescue site coordinates and mission steps have not been published in the advance announcement.
Securing Air Supremacy: the second operation
Securing Air Supremacy is the second of three Genshin Impact Grand Defense operations. It is part of the same effort to contain the Holy Soil threat, rather than an unrelated event. You can access it through the Grand Defense activities when it becomes available.
The official preview does not describe a flight sequence or name specific aerial targets. Check the operation’s in-game instructions for the stage rules and objective markers rather than following an unverified pre-release route.
Tactical Sweep: where it fits
Tactical Sweep is the third Genshin Impact Grand Defense activity. HoYoverse has described the wider event as a series of urgent missions, including passing on important information and helping contain the crisis. Players make progress by completing the available operations.
The Tactical Sweep announcement doesn’t specify its enemy list or party restrictions. Open the activity’s briefing after launch to see what it asks you to do. There’s no official reason to prepare a specific elemental team ahead of the actual stage details.
Genshin Impact Grand Defense rewards and four-star choice
HoYoverse confirms the opportunity to invite a four-star character of your choice, plus Primogems and a Crown of Insight. These are rewards for participating and making progress, not a blanket login grant. The event reward track will show when you have fulfilled each requirement.
To claim the event’s four-star invitation, track the rewards page as you complete operations. HoYoverse confirms a character of your choice, but the advance notice doesn’t state the exact number of activities or points needed. This is a Grand Defense reward, not a character banner wish.
How to follow the event without missing rewards
Start by checking your Adventure Rank and using the story route or Quick Start as appropriate. Open the Grand Defense page, look at the three named operation tabs, complete the accessible objectives and review your event progress regularly.
Genshin Impact Grand Defense is planned to run throughout Version 7.2. Check the event page as new operations become accessible and claim your rewards when you reach their milestones, including Primogems, the Crown of Insight and the four-star character invitation.
