Warframe Forma Types include regular Forma, Omni Forma, Stance Forma and Umbra Forma. Each changes the polarity of a Mod slot, but not in the same way. Regular Forma selects one polarity, while certain special versions offer wider compatibility.
The October 31 Twitch Drop pool contains both Stance Forma and Omni Forma. If you’ve found an older Aura Forma guide, the name has changed. The table below compares the four main types and where to earn them in the current game.
Warframe Forma Types: All versions compared
| Forma | What it changes | Common acquisition |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Forma | One chosen slot to a selected polarity | Void Relic blueprint; Market |
| Omni Forma | One mod slot accepts normal polarities, excluding Umbra | Arbitrations, 1999 Calendar, Temporal Archimedea and Descendia rewards |
| Stance Forma | A melee weapon Stance slot accepts Stance polarities | Teshin’s Steel Path Honors; limited rewards |
| Umbra Forma | Adds the Umbra polarity to a Mod slot | Nightwave and periodic Steel Path Honors rewards |
The Warframe Forma Types do not generally create new Mod slots. They change how existing slots match Mods. To unlock an Exilus utility slot first, you need the relevant Exilus Adapter.
What does regular Forma do?
Regular Forma lets you assign a specific polarity to a chosen slot on compatible equipment. When the Mod and slot polarities match, the Mod consumes less capacity. Applying Forma to many equipment types also resets their rank, so you must level them again.
Farm a regular Forma Blueprint from Void Relics and build it in the Foundry, or buy a built Forma or bundle from the Market. Start with normal Forma when you know the exact polarity your finished build needs.
Warframe Forma Types: What is Omni Forma?
In March 2025, Digital Extremes reworked Aura Forma into Omni Forma with Techrot Encore. The old item only made Aura slots universal; Omni Forma can apply a Universal Polarity to any eligible Mod slot.
A mod placed in the universal slot benefits from matching polarity for standard Mod polarities, but Umbra polarities are excluded. Existing Aura Forma was converted into Omni Forma. The publisher also changed the 1999 Calendar reward to an Omni Forma Blueprint.
Omni Forma Blueprints can come from the 1999 Calendar and Temporal Archimedea reward pools. They can also drop in Arbitrations, while Descendia lists an Omni Forma Blueprint among its rare rewards. Use Omni Forma when you swap different Mod polarities in the same slot.
Warframe Forma Types: How Stance Forma works
Stance Forma applies universal compatibility only to a melee weapon’s Stance slot. It doesn’t let you fit any Stance on any weapon type. The Stance still needs to be compatible with the weapon class.
Teshin’s Steel Path Honors offers the Stance Forma Blueprint for 10 Steel Essence. If you use several Stance Mods with different polarities on the same melee weapon, it saves switching that slot’s polarity.
Among the Warframe Forma Types, Stance Forma is melee-only. It doesn’t change the weapon’s Stance compatibility or let a sword equip a polearm Stance. For a flexible Aura slot on a Warframe, use Omni Forma.
What does Umbra Forma do?
Umbra Forma sets an Umbra polarity, allowing a compatible Umbral Mod’s capacity cost to be reduced. It is valuable for builds that invest heavily in Umbral Mods, because ordinary universal Omni polarity does not cover Umbra.
Umbra Forma is rarer than standard Forma. It can appear through Nightwave and Teshin’s rotating Steel Path Honors rewards. Check the current Teshin rotation before saving Steel Essence for one.
Which Warframe Forma Types should you use first?
For most builds, start with regular Forma when you know which Mod polarity your final setup needs. Use Omni Forma for a flexible general or Aura slot, Stance Forma for changing melee stances, and Umbra Forma for committed Umbral builds.
The October 31 fundraiser livestream offers Stance Forma or Omni Forma as possible Drops after watching 30 minutes, but the reward comes from a ten-item pool. Our October 31 Twitch Drops guide explains the claim process.
Pick the Warframe Forma Types by slot: regular for a single known polarity, Stance for melee Stances, Omni for standard polarity flexibility and Umbra for Umbral Mods. That prevents spending a rare Forma on the wrong slot.
