The The Sims 4 Memory Boost feature is now available for every player following the July 21 update, bringing one of the biggest performance improvements the game has received in years. Rather than adding new gameplay, Memory Boost focuses on making existing saves run more smoothly by improving how the game manages memory behind the scenes.
If you’ve experienced lag during long sessions, slower loading times, or crashes in older save files, this update is designed to reduce those problems without requiring any changes from the player.

Memory Boost is a new optimisation system that changes how The Sims 4 handles memory while you play. Instead of allowing memory usage to build up over longer sessions, the game now manages that data more efficiently to help maintain stable performance.
Unlike graphics settings or gameplay options, Memory Boost isn’t a feature you’ll actively use. It’s a background improvement that automatically works while you’re playing. EA has enabled it on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation, so every platform benefits from the update.

During testing, the developers also reported they could no longer reproduce one of the most frequently reported Residential Rental save corruption problems after enabling Memory Boost.
Can You Turn Memory Boost Off?
No.
Memory Boost is automatically enabled for every supported platform and doesn’t include a toggle in the game settings. According to the technical notes released alongside the update, the previous option has been removed because the feature is now active by default.
Who Will Notice the Biggest Difference?
Not every player will immediately see dramatic improvements.
If you mostly play in fresh saves with smaller households, the changes may feel subtle. Players with older saves, complex builds or sessions that last several hours are far more likely to notice smoother gameplay as memory usage remains more consistent over time.
