Chespin Path Pokémon GO is the route Trainers choose if they want GO Pass: Mega Finale rewards focused on Chespin, Chesnaught and Mega Chesnaught. The path begins through branching Timed Research during Mega Ascension and determines which starter receives your focused encounters, Candy, Candy XL, Mega Energy, Special Background rewards and GO Pass Deluxe bonuses.
For players specifically interested in Mega Chesnaught, the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route is the correct choice because it directs the event’s major progression rewards toward the Chespin evolutionary line.
What happens if you choose the Chespin Path in Pokémon GO?
Choosing the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route links your GO Pass: Mega Finale progression to Chespin and its evolution line.
That means the path focuses on:
- Chespin encounters
- Chespin Candy
- Chespin Candy XL
- Mega Energy for Mega Chesnaught
- Chespin Special Background encounters
- Chesnaught Special Background reward
- Increased Chespin Shiny chance with GO Pass Deluxe
- Chesnaught-themed avatar rewards with Deluxe
The free GO Pass contains enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your chosen partner once, so selecting Chespin gives you a direct route toward unlocking Mega Chesnaught.
Is the Chespin Path worth choosing?
Yes, if Mega Chesnaught is the Mega Evolution you most want to build.
The Chespin Path Pokémon GO route is particularly useful for Trainers who want Grass and Fighting Mega Evolution coverage or who simply prefer Chesnaught over Delphox and Greninja.
Mega Chesnaught gives the path a different role from the Fennekin and Froakie routes because it provides Grass and Fighting typing rather than Fire/Psychic or Water/Dark.
If you have no strong preference between the three Kalos starters, Froakie remains our general recommendation, but Chespin is absolutely the right choice if Mega Chesnaught is your priority.
What rewards do you get from the Chespin Path?
The Chespin Path Pokémon GO rewards are tied directly to the Chespin evolutionary line.
As you progress through GO Pass: Mega Finale, the path provides Chespin encounters, Candy, Candy XL and Mega Energy.
It also includes several Special Background encounters with the chosen starter.
At later ranks, the rewards continue to follow the same evolution line rather than switching between Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie.
Chespin Path Special Background rewards
Players choosing the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route receive Chespin with a Special Background at:
- Rank 2
- Rank 40
- Rank 70
At Rank 100, the reward becomes Chesnaught with a Special Background.
This makes the Chespin route especially useful for collectors who want the Mega Finale Special Background on Chesnaught rather than Delphox or Greninja.
If Chesnaught is the final evolution you most want with the Special Background, Chespin is the correct route.
Does the Chespin Path give Mega Chesnaught Energy?
Yes.
Choosing the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route gives Mega Energy tied to the Chespin evolution line.
The free GO Pass contains enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your selected partner once.
GO Pass Deluxe provides considerably more Mega Energy, allowing players to make much more progress toward higher Mega Levels.
That means players intending to use Mega Chesnaught regularly after Mega Finale can benefit from choosing Chespin instead of putting their path-specific Mega Energy into Mega Delphox or Mega Greninja.
What type is Mega Chesnaught?
Mega Chesnaught is a Grass and Fighting-type Pokémon.
That gives it very different coverage from the other two Kalos first partner Mega Evolutions.
Mega Delphox is Fire/Psychic.
Mega Greninja is Water/Dark.
The Chespin Path Pokémon GO therefore makes the most sense for players who want Grass and Fighting Mega Evolution coverage.
Does Mega Chesnaught get Seed Bomb+?
Yes.
Mega Chesnaught receives Seed Bomb+ as its additional Charged Attack while Mega Evolved.
The move is part of Pokémon GO’s expanded Mega Evolution system.
Mega Chesnaught receives Seed Bomb+ regardless of its current Mega Level, although the power of the attack increases as Mega Level rises.
This gives the Chespin Path Pokémon GO another useful feature beyond simply unlocking Mega Chesnaught.
Players planning to build Mega Chesnaught can continue progressing its Mega Level to improve Seed Bomb+.
Do you need Super Max Level for Seed Bomb+?
No.
Mega Chesnaught does not need to already be at Super Max Level before Seed Bomb+ becomes available.
Eligible Mega-Evolved Pokémon receive their additional Charged Attack regardless of current Mega Level.
However, the move gets stronger as Mega Level increases.
That means choosing the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route gives you a direct way to gather the Mega Energy needed to start building Mega Chesnaught, while continued Mega progression improves Seed Bomb+.
Does the Chespin Path increase Shiny Chespin chances?
The free GO Pass does not provide an announced increased Shiny chance simply because you chose Chespin.
GO Pass Deluxe does.
Deluxe players receive an increased chance of encountering their chosen partner as a Shiny Pokémon.
That means if you choose the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route with GO Pass Deluxe, the increased partner Shiny chance applies to Chespin.
If Shiny Chespin is the one you most want from the three Kalos starters, that can be a strong reason to choose this route.
What avatar reward do Chespin Path players get?
GO Pass Deluxe players choosing Chespin receive the Chesnaught T-Shirt as their path-specific avatar reward.
That means the starter choice also affects the themed cosmetic reward.
Chespin players receive Chesnaught-themed gear, while Fennekin and Froakie players receive Delphox and Greninja-themed rewards instead.
Collectors who care about avatar items may want to factor that into their decision.
Can you still catch Fennekin and Froakie if you choose Chespin?
Yes.
Choosing the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route does not make Fennekin or Froakie unavailable.
All three Kalos first partner Pokémon can still appear during Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale.
The difference is that your GO Pass progression remains focused on Chespin.
You can still catch Fennekin and Froakie, but your main progression rewards, Mega Energy and Special Background encounters remain tied to Chespin and Chesnaught.
Can you change from Chespin to Fennekin or Froakie later?
There is currently no announced method for changing the selected GO Pass path after making the branching Timed Research choice.
Players should therefore treat the Chespin Path Pokémon GO selection as a meaningful decision.
Do not choose Chespin assuming you can later switch the pass to Froakie or Fennekin.
If Mega Delphox or Mega Greninja is actually your priority, choose the corresponding starter instead.
Is Mega Chesnaught better than Mega Delphox or Mega Greninja?
There is no single answer that applies to every Trainer.
All three Mega Evolutions have different typings and different roles.
Mega Chesnaught provides Grass/Fighting coverage.
Mega Delphox provides Fire/Psychic coverage.
Mega Greninja provides Water/Dark coverage.
For players specifically interested in the Chespin Path Pokémon GO, Mega Chesnaught is the better choice if Grass and Fighting coverage fills a useful gap in your collection.
If you have no strong preference, Froakie remains our general recommendation, but Chespin is the clear route for anyone who specifically wants Mega Chesnaught.
When does the Chespin Path start?
The branching Timed Research begins during Mega Ascension on August 31, 2026.
Completing the research unlocks the matching GO Pass: Mega Finale path.
Mega Ascension then leads directly into Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale on September 5 and September 6.
This gives players time to begin progressing through the Chespin Path Pokémon GO before the main Mega Finale weekend begins.
Should you choose the Chespin Path in Pokémon GO?
Choose the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route if Mega Chesnaught is the Mega Evolution you most want to build.
The path gives you Chespin encounters, Candy, Candy XL, Mega Energy, multiple Special Background rewards and direct progression toward Mega Chesnaught.
GO Pass Deluxe also adds the increased Shiny chance for Chespin and the Chesnaught-themed avatar reward.
Mega Chesnaught now also gains Seed Bomb+ as an additional Charged Attack while Mega Evolved, with the move becoming stronger as Mega Level increases.
If Grass and Fighting Mega coverage, Chesnaught collectibles or Mega Chesnaught itself are your priority, the Chespin Path Pokémon GO route is the one to choose.
