Ace Combat 8 Mission 16 is one of those missions where firing too quickly is the easiest way to fail. In Singer, you’re picking three terrorist container ships out of ordinary civilian traffic. In Singer, three terrorist container ships are hidden among innocent traffic near the International Space Elevator. The correct ships have three deck cranes and a sun emblem on the hull. Confirm both clues before firing, then prepare to intercept explosive UAVs after the operation changes.
The awkward part is getting a proper look at each ship without wasting a minute circling it. A missile fired at the wrong civilian ship can ruin the attempt, and chasing unrelated aircraft can leave you badly placed when the drones take off. The answer is a methodical search followed by a quick climb towards the airborne targets.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: Singer walkthrough
Operation Lighthouse Lady takes place around the space elevator at Selatapura. In the campaign, the aircraft chosen for the preceding Wings of Wax mission carries into this sortie, so you can’t assume you can build a completely different setup between the two story missions. Fortunately, good flying and careful identification matter more than having the biggest bombs.
1. Find the three terrorist container ships
Begin Ace Combat 8 Mission 16 by scanning the stopped ships from one side of the maritime area to the other. Look down at the deck for three cranes, then check the side of the vessel for the sun symbol. Both signs must be present. The ships are mixed among civilian vessels and their exact positions can vary, so don’t blindly copy a map position without verifying the target.
Approach at an angle that lets you see the deck and hull on the same pass. If you can count the cranes but can’t see the emblem, circle back for a better view instead of launching a missile to find out. Some innocent ships have a crab emblem that can look like the sun at a glance. Don’t rely on the colour alone either; the sun emblem can look different depending on the ship and lighting. The game even calls attention to that mistake. A crab is not a sun.

2. Sink two confirmed ships, then prepare to climb
Once you’ve positively identified one of the three ships, destroy it and move to the next cluster. Avoid repeated passes over a wreck you’ve already cleared. After the first two hostile ships are sunk, the mission updates and the remaining terrorist operation starts launching explosive drones. The threat is now moving vertically towards the space elevator.
Even if you sink the remaining ship quickly, you still have to deal with the drone phase. Destroying the ship doesn’t simply skip the UAV threat. You must deal with the airborne UAV phase rather than assuming sinking every ship automatically ends the mission. Keep an eye on the HUD and switch from surface targets to marked EXPLOSIVE UAV contacts as soon as they appear.
3. Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: Stop the explosive UAVs
The drones climb around the elevator towards 40,000 feet. Watch the altitude calls and prioritise the ones already highest. Turn up towards their flight path immediately and intercept the highest or most advanced threats first. This is not the moment to finish searching the sea or chase a fighter for bonus points. You finish when the explosive UAV threat has been stopped and the elevator is safe. Don’t hang around searching for civilian ships once the objective has changed.
Quick, accurate air-to-air weapons help here. SASMs are useful for their proximity damage if your aircraft can carry them, but standard missiles can still do the job with clean angles. On Elite, two UAVs reaching the elevator are enough to fail the objective. The drones are heading for the high platform, so intercept the leading ones first. That’s why your altitude and target order matter more than squeezing a few more points from surface targets.
How to find Currus in Ace Combat 8 Mission 16
Currus is a hidden F-16C Ace associated with the drone launch. For the post-campaign challenge, replay Singer through Free Mission on Veteran difficulty or higher. Once the explosive UAVs launch, Currus appears and heads towards your area. His entry point depends on the location of the last hostile ship.
Don’t forget the mission objective just because Currus has appeared. Intercept the UAVs that could cause failure, shoot Currus down when you have a safe opening, then finish the remaining drones and complete the sortie. The Assault Record needs the Ace kill and a completed mission; a failed interception won’t help your collection.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: Avoiding civilian ships and patch issues
Bandai Namco’s 1.01.002 update addressed an issue with wingmen attacking other container ships during Singer. That fix doesn’t change your own responsibility to identify the targets properly. You should still match three cranes and a sun emblem before firing. If you are returning to the mission after launch-week trouble, update the game before treating an old wingman mistake as normal behaviour.
A single non-fatal hit on a wrong ship may not immediately end the mission, but don’t treat that as permission to test targets with missiles. Firing on the wrong ship wastes precious time and risks a mission failure if you keep doing it. You’ll save far more time by making a clean identification pass than by gambling on a radar lock.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16 FAQ
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: How many terrorist ships?
Three. Look for the shared combination of three deck cranes and a sun emblem, not just a familiar shape or a marker near a particular corner of the map.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: What if the drones launch early?
Prioritise the airborne EXPLOSIVE UAVs. They’re climbing towards the elevator and can fail the objective if allowed through. Once the urgent interception is secure, return to any remaining compulsory targets.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: Does sinking the last ship stop the drones?
No. Once the mission updates, the final ship’s UAVs can still launch even if you destroy that ship quickly. Intercept the drones rather than assuming the last explosion at sea ends the sortie.
Ace Combat 8 Mission 16: Can I unlock Currus without the drone launch?
No. Currus is tied to the drone-launch phase on a Veteran-or-higher post-campaign replay. Killing the three container ships alone isn’t the hidden Ace trigger.
