ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare is an eight-player PvPvE mode in which two teams of four face each other while fighting computer-controlled aircraft, ships and ground units. You’re not simply racing another squad to eliminate AI enemies: the rival team can attack you, interfere with your targets and turn a promising run into a scramble for survival.
That makes Co-Op Warfare very different from Co-Op Assault, where rival four-pilot squads compete for scores against AI threats without the same direct PvP pressure. Understanding when to fight the enemy team, when to clear the battlefield and when to disengage is what makes the mode rewarding.
How ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare works

An ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare match has eight pilots split into two four-player teams. Non-player threats appear across the battlefield on land, at sea and in the air, so there is usually something more urgent to deal with than the closest hostile player. Your team must manage combat against AI targets and watch for attacks from the opposing pilots at the same time.

| Progression | Part of ACE COMBAT ONLINE, separate from Campaign aircraft ownership |
In ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare, a team that chases one enemy fighter can abandon several worthwhile objectives. Work out which incoming AI units pose an immediate danger before committing to a dogfight. If the other team dives into combat, use that distraction to clear valuable battlefield targets instead of blindly following it.
How to play ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare with friends
To play ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare, enter ACE COMBAT ONLINE from the game’s online section and use its multiplayer matchmaking or party options to look for Co-Op Warfare. You need an online connection and any applicable platform multiplayer subscription. Bandai Namco describes the Air Base as the main online hub where pilots can access matchmaking, social features and shops.
Coordinate with friends before joining a match. A four-person squad has enough room for different responsibilities: a pilot watching threats in the air, another equipped for surface targets and two players ready to intercept enemies or respond to changes in the fight. The game does not require that exact formation; it is a useful way to avoid having everyone chase the same target.
Choosing aircraft and special weapons for Warfare
For ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare, bring weapons suited to the type of target you expect to attack. Air-to-air special weapons are useful against hostile pilots and aircraft, but can leave you struggling with ships or heavily defended ground positions. Surface-focused armament helps against the AI battlefield but limits your options if the opposing team attacks aggressively.
Balanced multirole aircraft are a good starting point when you do not yet know the map or enemy pattern. Talk through loadouts with your squad so that at least one pilot can reliably fight air targets while another handles surface objectives. Save higher-value special ammunition for difficult targets rather than using everything on weak enemies at the start.
Threat Level and Ace status
Bandai Namco links online Threat Level and Ace status to the risks and rewards of fighting well. A pilot who becomes a valuable opponent can draw attention from the other team, which changes the match even when the AI objectives remain the same. Watch for players carrying greater threat and avoid giving them an uncontested run across the battlefield.
The publisher has not published a complete numerical formula for every threat change or reward in the official overview. For how the system is described and how to approach the related unlocks, read our Threat Level guide.
ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare versus Co-Op Assault
The quickest way to choose between them is to decide whether you want to fight another human squad directly. Co-Op Assault also uses two teams of four, but it is a PvE score contest against AI objectives. Co-Op Warfare adds direct clashes with the enemy pilots while keeping hostile computer-controlled units active.
If you are learning a new aircraft or weapon combination, Co-Op Assault offers a way to practise cooperating against AI threats without the same level of direct player interference. If you already feel comfortable managing several targets at once, Co-Op Warfare turns those decisions into a tougher competitive fight.
Does Campaign progress carry into Co-Op Warfare?
ACE COMBAT ONLINE uses its own progression and save data. It can feature aircraft models also seen in the single-player campaign, but unlocking a jet with campaign MRP does not automatically grant ownership of that jet online. Earn your online aircraft and rewards through the online systems instead of assuming your Campaign aircraft tree transfers across.
The seasonal ACE PASS offers additional progression rewards, including cosmetics and aircraft-related unlocks. Those are tied to the online reward structure rather than replacing the need to understand the mode itself. Check the online progression guide before spending anything.
Tips for winning ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare matches
Keep track of both kinds of enemy. Don’t dive straight towards the first opposing pilot if your team is being attacked by AI units. Stay within range to assist friends, use air-target weapons for urgent aerial threats, and avoid spending your entire special-weapon supply on the opening encounter. If one teammate comes under pressure, covering them may be more valuable than chasing a damaged enemy across the map.
After each ACE COMBAT 8 Co-Op Warfare match, think about which type of threat caused the most trouble. If ships survived too long, change part of the team’s surface capability. If opposing fighters kept stopping your attacks, improve the air-combat balance. Small equipment changes based on what actually happened will usually help more than copying a loadout made for another mode.
