Fisch Nessie Expertise is the final Headless Horseman objective in FischFright 3. Once you’ve rescued Baby Nessie and stabilized the chapel, you’ll need to show the Horseman Plush Nessie, Ghoul Nessie and Zombie Nessie.
This isn’t a hunt for one ordinary Nessie. Each named variant has a different Halloween acquisition route, and previously caught fish can count if you still have them. Here’s where to obtain the three fish and what you receive when you finish.

When the final quest becomes available
The Headless Horseman assigns three missions in order. First rescue Baby Nessie by carrying it out of the church while the lights are steady. Next stabilize the chapel by landing five consecutive FischFright-mutated fish in its pool during flickers. Only after those two stages can you complete Nessie Expertise. The Horseman moves from outside the gate into the chapel for the final interaction.
Fisch Nessie Expertise: The required variants
| Nessie | Preferred bait | Weather | Time | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plush Nessie | Sour Jelly Candy | Any | Any | Autumn |
| Ghoul Nessie | Sour Jelly Candy | Jack-o-Moon | Night | Autumn |
| Zombie Nessie | Black Licorice | Jack-o-Moon | Night | Autumn |
You need Plush Nessie, Ghoul Nessie and Zombie Nessie. They are three distinct fish in the Halloween event, not interchangeable cosmetic names for one regular Nessie. If you already obtained the eligible fish during FischFright 3, and still have them available, they can be shown without catching fresh copies specifically for the quest.

Finding Plush Nessie
Plush Nessie is obtainable through Halloween activities, including a Witch’s Cauldron reward at 470 Hex Energy. Our published Plush Nessie guide covers the available routes, while the Hex Energy guide explains how the cauldron reward progression works. The required Plush Nessie fish isn’t the same as the Baby Nessie companion awarded after you complete the Headless Horseman questline.
Obtaining Ghoul Nessie
Ghoul Nessie is one of the special Halloween Nessie catches. Our Ghoul Nessie guide covers its event conditions, location and any associated ritual requirements. Make sure you’re holding the Ghoul variant when you go back to the chapel. A Zombie Nessie or ordinary Nessie cannot replace it in the final list.
Obtaining Zombie Nessie
Zombie Nessie is connected with Haunted Cemetery access and its ritual process. Follow the Zombie Nessie walkthrough for the catch and the Haunted Cemetery guide for the area unlock. Getting access to the correct fishing area may require completing earlier ritual steps. Keep the catch available until you have shown it to the Horseman.
Turning in the three fish
After you finish the chapel’s stabilization task, find the Horseman inside. Talk to him and use the prompts to show each of the three required Nessies. If the game isn’t registering one, inspect the actual variant listed in your inventory and confirm both previous stages are marked complete. Special Shiny and Skeletal versions may also grant matching companion skins, but the base quest names the three standard variants.
The Baby Nessie reward
Finishing Nessie Expertise unlocks Baby Nessie as a Satchel companion. It increases FischFright mutation chances and dynamically raises fishing progress speed depending on fish size and resilience. The effect becomes stronger at night and slightly weaker in the day. The quest also offers Baby Plush, Baby Ghoul and Baby Zombie Nessie visual styles, with additional appearances tied to special variants.
Troubleshooting and timing
If the NPC remains at the outside gate, make sure you’ve completed the five-fish Chapel Pool objective. If you’ve caught the Nessies but can’t finish, confirm you still have the three proper fish variants. This event began with the Horseman update on October 24, 2026 during FischFright 3; check the in-game countdown as the Halloween event approaches its listed November 9 end.
For Fisch Nessie Expertise, both Ghoul Nessie and Zombie Nessie depend on Ritual Awakening at the Haunted Cemetery. Set that up before fishing during Jack-o-Moon nights; otherwise you may be in the right weather but unable to obtain the required variant. Plush Nessie also has a trick-or-treat route.
If Fisch Nessie Expertise still isn’t completing after you’ve shown all three fish, confirm the Horseman is standing inside the chapel and that the earlier five-fish objective is marked finished. The final conversation only unlocks after the previous steps.
The final turn-in requires Plush, Ghoul and Zombie Nessie. Keep each fish until the Horseman accepts it inside the chapel; the cemetery ritual unlocks matter for the latter two.
Fisch Nessie Expertise is finished when its specified objective is registered by the Headless Horseman, rather than by completing unrelated Halloween activities.
