NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations give you bonuses when the right players are put together in your Hockey Ultimate Team lineup. Your active Coach can provide additional combinations, and the October 20 Update 3 introduced new Glossary filters to make them easier to find.
If you’ve got a combination listed but the boost isn’t showing, start with the players actually on the line and the Coach assigned to that lineup. Owning cards that meet a requirement isn’t enough by itself. Here’s where to check the combinations, how to activate a Coach boost and what to do when the bonus looks wrong.
Where to find NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations
EA says Coach combinations are shown in two places: Coach Info and the Coach Combinations section of the Line Combinations screen. Open those before making changes so you can see what your current Coach offers.
Your Coach determines which Coach-specific combinations are available. EA confirms that a Coach can provide up to four combinations for forwards and four for defence or goalies. These don’t disappear when a new HUT season begins: Coach combinations remain attached to that particular Coach even when seasonal Line Combinations change.
The Glossary is useful when you’re looking beyond your current line. With Update 3 installed, the five new filters let you narrow the combinations you want to inspect.

How to activate NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations boosts
First choose the combination you want to complete and read its player requirements. Then check the relevant line in your active HUT lineup. EA’s rule for Coach combinations is that the boost activates for the line that completes the combination. A qualifying card somewhere else in your collection won’t make that line eligible.
Next, confirm that the Coach offering the combination is the one assigned to this lineup. If you’re using several saved lineups, it’s quite possible to have a different Coach on each one. Changing lineups can therefore change the combinations available even when you still own the same players.
For NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations, the combination description tells you which cards qualify and what bonus you’ll get. Check it before buying more players, particularly when a specific league, team or collection is required. The Glossary filters help you find candidates; they don’t activate the bonus on their own.
What boosts can NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations give?
Depending on the combination, a Coach can boost OVR, Ability Points or Salary Cap. These bonuses do different jobs. An OVR boost increases overall rating, an Ability Point boost gives you more points for abilities, and a Salary Cap boost raises the available cap. Check which of those rewards the combination actually offers before changing your team.
It’s worth checking the reward before restructuring your team. A combination that looks attractive on paper might require you to replace several players you already like using. A smaller bonus that fits your current lineup could be easier to maintain, especially if you’re still building your HUT collection.
How to switch Coaches for NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations
EA gives a precise route for changing your Coach. In Edit Lines, open the 5v5 Lines tab, select the Coach currently in your lineup, choose Substitute and select a Coach item you own. The replacement will then appear in your Coach slot.
Switching Coaches immediately changes which Coach combinations are associated with that lineup. Your other HUT lineups keep their assigned Coaches. A Coach is required in every lineup, so removing one means you must substitute another rather than leave the slot empty.
If you’re experimenting with NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations, look at the new Coach’s available combinations before replacing the previous one. Otherwise, you may lose a boost that was working perfectly with your existing players.
How to get more Coaches for NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations
You receive a Coach with your HUT Starter Pack, and that Coach is automatically assigned to your first lineup. Further Coach items can come from HUT Packs or be bought with Coins in the Auction House.
EA recommends using the Auction House filters for Team, Card Type and Price when searching for a particular Coach. Before spending Coins, compare the Coach’s combinations with the players you have. The expensive part of a new setup may be the extra player cards needed to complete its requirements, not just the Coach itself.
Why aren’t my NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations activating?
If a boost is missing, work through the three checks in order: the exact player requirements, the players assigned to the relevant line, and the active Coach on that specific lineup. Then look at the combination’s displayed reward to make sure you’re expecting the right type of bonus.
EA has fixed a related bug. In NHL 27 Update 3, Line Combination boosts could previously activate with the wrong players or appear in an inconsistent order. Crashes in Edit Lines and visual problems around the Line Combination tabs were also addressed. If your lineup behaved oddly before October 20, revisit it after the patch.
Coach combinations and seasonal Line Combinations aren’t identical. Coach-specific combinations remain attached to their Coach across HUT seasons, while the seasonal selection can change. That can explain why something you previously saw in the Glossary isn’t appearing where you expect now.
Did Update 3 change NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations?
The basic requirement of putting eligible players together has not been replaced. What NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations gained in Update 3 was a better way to filter the Glossary, alongside fixes for incorrect activation and display problems. The five filters help you find possibilities; they don’t equip players or activate bonuses for you.
