NHL 27 Update 3 Patch Notes: Goalie Fixes, Line Changes and HUT

NHL 27 Update 3 patch notes

NHL 27 Update 3 went live on October 20, 2026, bringing fixes for the stride-deke goal, mixed line changes, Hockey Ultimate Team crashes and several other problems players have been reporting. EA also changed how the Pressure Meter and fatigue work, so the patch affects the way matches play as well as how the menus behave.

If you’ve been waiting for a particular fix, the details are worth checking. Some items change the game’s balance, while others fix specific crashes, reward displays or lineup errors. Below is what actually changed, divided by game mode, with the less obvious fixes included.

When did NHL 27 Update 3 release?

EA scheduled the update for 1pm ET / 10am PT on Tuesday, October 20, which was 6pm BST in the UK. EA warned players to expect server instability for up to an hour after deployment and advised them to finish online matches beforehand. That warning applied to the release window; it was not an announcement of an all-day outage.

Goalie changes in NHL 27 Update 3

The stride-deke goal has been a prominent complaint, and EA has adjusted goalie logic to reduce how often it works. This isn’t a new rule against scoring with the move: it’s a change to the goalkeeper’s response, intended to make that particular finish less automatic.

EA also fixed redirect saves where the puck could lose too much speed or come off the goalie in an unrealistic direction, and corrected the outgoing velocity on stick redirects. Goalies are now less accurate on high-reach and fully extended saves. That puts more value on creating difficult chances, but EA hasn’t published a new percentage or said every shot from those positions will go in.

NHL 27 Update 3 line-change fixes: mixed units and tired players

NHL 27 Update 3 tackles the frustrating situation where you call for a particular line and an unexpected mix of skaters appears instead. EA says it fixed several cases of mixed lines and a problem with cycling that sometimes sent out a different line from the one requested.

There are also changes to when tired players judge it safe to make a substitution. In HUT, an issue that sent the wrong players onto the ice during automatic line changes has been fixed. If this was happening to you, check the same lineup and substitution situation after installing the update rather than expecting every line-management behaviour to change.

NHL 27 Update 3 Pressure System, AI and penalty-kill changes

Clearing the offensive zone now makes the Pressure Meter drop more quickly. EA has also reduced the fatigue penalty multiplier for defenders who have been under sustained pressure. Together, those changes are designed to make a successful clearance more rewarding, rather than leaving your players exhausted long after you’ve got the puck out.

There are two more gameplay tweaks worth noting. Superstar AI players should be less inclined to try low-percentage slap shots, and penalty-kill units now recover energy at rates aligned with even-strength units. Both changes are included in EA’s October 20 notes.

NHL 27 Update 3 HUT fixes and new filters

Hockey Ultimate Team gets fixes for crashes when browsing Edit Lines and changing a lineup. EA also corrected Line Combination boosts that could activate with the wrong players, along with bonuses displaying in the wrong order. Text and team logos overlapping on combination screens, plus gaps in player searches, have been addressed.

The Line Combination Glossary now has filters for Position, Collection Type, League, Team and Nationality. These make it easier to look up potential combinations when you’re deciding whether a new item will help your squad. Our NHL 27 HUT Line Combinations guide explains where to find Coach bonuses and how to put the right players together.

HUT Store, Cup Chase, Wildcard and rewards

EA fixed a Store freeze that could stop pack purchases when switching tabs, long waits when changing Store sections, and a crash while browsing Unopened Packs. Cup Chase also gets several corrections: some rewards had differed from their configured prizes, reward images could disappear when changing difficulty and the victory presentation could play twice.

NHL 27 Update 3 also makes earned rewards easier to read. Tradeability icons have been added across reward views, including the XP Season Path and Wildcard Path. Some reward names now identify the relevant card type or programme, and post-game screens should show the right item quantities. Tabs with unclaimed rewards should remain visible until you collect them.

Objectives now have a fix for redirected shots not counting towards applicable global goals, and completed event tabs clear after the event ends. Wildcard gets an overtime desync fix, corrected reward descriptions and a fix for an error when selecting Play Next. These are more specific than simply saying HUT rewards were improved.

NHL 27 Update 3 Be A Pro and Franchise fixes

In Be A Pro, EA fixed a Salary Perks screen incorrectly showing players as over budget, a problem that could stop you declining captaincy in certain leadership challenges, and issues with teammate conversations and captaincy information. Management likeability and leadership discussions received corrections too.

Regular Franchise Mode gets fixes for missing generated-player silhouettes during drafts, contract-offer displays, Modified No-Trade Clause percentage options and a CPU-versus-CPU crash.

Connected Franchise has the longer list: crashes and soft locks around league creation and free-agent claims; errors with invites, codes and reconnecting to lobbies; and problems with trades, salary-cap displays and roster overrides. The Roster Override screen now includes a salary editor, more information and an exit confirmation. Players managing online leagues have several concrete fixes to check here.

World of CHEL and presentation fixes

NHL 27 Update 3 addresses crashes in the World of CHEL hub, while switching tabs and occasionally loading into Clubs 6v6. The update also fixes a Failed to Retrieve Data message in My Club Stats, errors in Club Finals History, and a presentation problem after winning the EASHL Final. Manual passing settings now use Manual and Auto labels instead of On and Off.

The update also fixes presentation problems involving blocked celebration cameras, commentary timing and pronunciation, animation clipping and goalie sticks appearing in the wrong hand during some sequences. EA has updated centre-ice designs for teams including Boston, St. Louis and Toronto, alongside a substantial group of uniforms across other leagues.

Are the NHL 27 Update 3 fixes working?

If your problem involved a specific HUT menu, a particular line-change sequence or a league-management crash, try that same action after updating. EA lists those problems as fixed, but checking the exact situation that previously failed is more useful than simply confirming the game launches.
