BeamNG.drive PS5 Mods and VR: What’s Supported at Launch?

BeamNG.drive PS5 release

BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR are not supported at launch, the developer has confirmed. BeamNG.drive arrived on PlayStation 5 on 19 October 2026, bringing the game’s detailed vehicle physics and new split-screen multiplayer to console, but two familiar PC features are currently missing.

If you’re planning to buy BeamNG specifically for a mod collection or to drive in virtual reality, it’s worth knowing about those limits before purchasing. BeamNG says it wants closer feature parity between platforms over time, but hasn’t committed to a date or final scope for bringing mods and VR to PS5.

Does BeamNG.drive support mods on PS5?

No. The official announcement says BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR won’t be supported at launch. That means you shouldn’t buy the console edition expecting the PC mod repository or custom vehicles, maps and other user-made content to be available immediately.

BeamNG’s PC modding scene is one of the reasons the original game has remained popular for so long. Community creations can change the vehicles you drive, the environments you explore and how you experiment with the simulation.

But the PS5 release is a new platform with different technical and distribution rules, so the developer hasn’t promised that every existing PC mod will transfer to the console. Its own statement says it hopes to achieve closer feature parity where possible, without spelling out what that will include.

Will BeamNG.drive support PlayStation VR2?

BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR also includes the question of PS VR2. The developer says VR is not supported on PS5 at launch. That applies to people hoping to sit behind the wheel with Sony’s headset on day one.

With BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR unavailable, PC remains the version with VR functionality and has continued developing it. Version 0.40 adds Direct3D 12 VR through OpenXR, with changes designed to improve performance and visual quality. It also automatically disables head-bobbing while VR is active to reduce discomfort.

Those are PC-only improvements. PS VR2 remains unsupported in the PS5 version. The October patch notes explicitly identify the new VR work as PC-only, and the earlier console statement remains the clearest answer for PlayStation users.

Has BeamNG announced PS5 mods or PS VR2 dates?

At-a-glance: custom vehicles and maps from the PC repository are currently a PC feature; PS VR2 headset driving is not available in the launch PS5 version; neither feature has a confirmed console release date. The PC version’s VR support does not make PS VR2 compatible with the PS5 edition.

There is currently no confirmed release date for BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR support. In its September 2026 PS5 announcement, BeamNG said the long-term aim was to bring platforms closer together where possible, but it couldn’t confirm the timing or the exact features that would make it across.

That leaves two separate unknowns. The first is when the developer might add more features; the second is whether all PC capabilities would be practical on the console. It’s entirely possible that some functions would need adapting or wouldn’t be included, even if some form of support arrives later.

For now, treat the console version as a game you can play for its existing driving modes, physics and local multiplayer, not a guarantee of future PS VR2 or custom-mod compatibility.

The current answer on BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR is straightforward: neither feature is included in the console launch version.

What can you play on PS5 instead?

BeamNG.drive launched with a large physics sandbox and version 0.40’s split-screen multiplayer system. On PS5, up to four players can share a session, choosing Freeroam or one of seven modes including Race, Drag Race, Pursuit, Derby, Drift, Rock Crawling and Soccer.

There is also the newly added Cherrier Percheron truck, redesigned menus and improvements to how you explore and interact with vehicles. Even without mods, there are plenty of ways to experiment with crashes, explore maps and try different handling challenges.

The new physical occupant system makes shared driving more interesting as well: players can enter and exit vehicles and take available seats, so the multiplayer experience goes beyond racing four separate cars.

Which version should you choose for modding or VR?

For BeamNG.drive PS5 mods and VR fans, PC is the currently supported route if user-made content or headset driving is the main priority. The game’s PC version has an established mod ecosystem and VR features, and the October update continues improving both areas.

If you mainly want to explore BeamNG’s collision physics from your sofa, share the screen with friends and play with a familiar PlayStation controller, the PS5 edition gives you the core sandbox without needing a PC.
