Fortnite Pumpkin Chests have 45 reported possible spawn positions across 26 areas of the Chapter 7 Season 4 island during Fortnitemares 2026. The best areas to search are Nightmare Neighborhood, Freaky Fields and the woods north of Stone Sanctum. You can find them at plenty of smaller landmarks too, so you don’t need to land at the busiest Halloween POI.

Look for a giant orange jack-o’-lantern glowing purple, then smash it to release a random Sprite. Fortnite Pumpkin Chests do not spawn at every mapped position in every match, so checking several nearby spots is much quicker than waiting for one to appear. Here’s the full location list, the easiest search routes and how to complete the 15,000 XP Nitemare quest.

The table covers all 26 areas where Fortnite Pumpkin Chests have been mapped. Each count represents possible locations, not guaranteed chests in a single lobby. For the most precise view, open the Fortnite.GG Battle Royale map and enable Spawns → Pumpkin Chests. That shows individual pins instead of only named POIs.

There are five reported Fortnite Pumpkin Chests spots north of Stone Sanctum, the largest single cluster. North of Nightmare Neighborhood, north of Heatwave Harbor and east of Chopped Shop have three each. If you only need one chest, pick a cluster that fits the Battle Bus route rather than travelling across the entire island.

Best Fortnite Pumpkin Chests route: Nightmare Neighborhood and Freaky Fields

Start on the north side of Nightmare Neighborhood, near the road towards Freaky Fields and the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria area. Check the nearby houses and the southeast playground, then continue towards the Freaky Fields farmhouses. There are reported spawns inside both POIs, between them and farther south of the fields.

That whole stretch gives you ten possible Fortnite Pumpkin Chests checks: three north of the neighbourhood, two inside, one south, two inside Freaky Fields and two farther south. It is a strong route but attracts players hunting Freddy Krueger, so pick up a weapon before heading towards the busiest houses.

Fortnite Pumpkin Chests route: Stone Sanctum woods

The area north of Stone Sanctum is a good alternative to the Halloween POIs. Search the wooded ground above the named area, then swing east and back towards the road to Pixel Poly. Between the north, east and the POI itself, there are eight reported spots on this route.

The advantage of this Fortnite Pumpkin Chests circuit is that you have several nearby chances without committing to one building. Look for the purple glow between trees and rocks, and pay attention to the Storm before wandering too far from the road.

Central and southern Fortnite Pumpkin Chests locations

For a middle-of-the-map landing, search around Geno’s Machine and Reality’s Reign, then head towards Golden Grove and Wonkeeland. In Golden Grove, the prominent red tree is a useful visual marker; at Wonkeeland, check around the central courtyard. Mega Maze has two other reported positions.

For a southern or coastal route, check Sunken Shores and its western outskirts, Heatwave Harbor and the three spots north of it. Chopped Shop adds one position in the POI, three east of it and another south. These Fortnite Pumpkin Chests clusters are worthwhile if the Battle Bus passes over them while Nightmare Neighborhood is busy.

How to find and smash Fortnite Pumpkin Chests

A Pumpkin Chest is much larger than a regular loot chest and has a carved pumpkin face with a purple glow. Walk up and follow the on-screen Smash prompt, holding the interaction until the pumpkin breaks. Use the control displayed on your own platform rather than relying on somebody else’s keybinds.

Smashing one of the Fortnite Pumpkin Chests releases a random Sprite, with the possibility of other loot as well. You can get seasonal Sprites such as Spooky Dash, Vampire, The Deer or Dumpster Dive, but the type and rarity are random. A Sprite you want to keep permanently must be extracted at an extraction site or with an eligible Portable Extractor.

Pumpkin Chest quest: how to get 15,000 XP

The Fortnitemares objective is “Smash a Pumpkin Chest to find a Sprite.” Find one of the Fortnite Pumpkin Chests, use Smash, then let the Sprite appear. The quest rewards 15,000 XP and contributes to the Fortnitemares quest reward progression. You don’t need to open every potential chest location or find a particular Sprite variant.

If the objective fails to register, check that you’re in a current Fortnitemares Battle Royale playlist, not Reload or a Creative map with a different loot pool. For more on the objective, see our Pumpkin Chest Sprite Quest guide.

Why are Fortnite Pumpkin Chests missing at a marked spot?

The spawn locations are fixed possibilities, not a promise that a chest appears there every match. Another player might also have smashed it first. If an expected pumpkin isn’t there, check the next position on the map. A different match may have a different selection of Fortnite Pumpkin Chests available.

For the quickest completion, try several pins in one cluster before rotating to another. The northern Halloween stretch is worth attempting if you’re confident fighting for loot, while Stone Sanctum and the coastal routes give you more alternatives. Once the Sprite quest registers, you can carry on with the rest of your Nitemare quests.
