Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings use five named Challenge Levels, ranging from the very forgiving The Man to the hardest option, The Best There Is. You can change the Challenge Level during the game, and the trophy list does not require a specific difficulty.
The useful part of Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings is that the preset is only the starting point. Insomniac also provides granular gameplay assists for enemy health, enemy damage, stealth awareness and dodge or parry timing, so a player can solve one frustrating problem without necessarily lowering everything.
Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings from easiest to hardest

| Challenge Level | General use |
|---|---|
| The Man | Lowest combat challenge, Logan cannot be knocked out |
| The Hunter | Story-focused, lighter combat pressure |
| The Mutant | Balanced default and best starting point for most players |
| The Weapon | Harder combat with more punishing enemies |
| The Best There Is | Highest challenge for experienced players |
The names are easy to misread because The Best There Is sounds positive, but it is the hardest setting. The Mutant is the sensible first choice if you want the intended balance without knowing how comfortable you will be with parries and Rage management.
What changes between Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings
The Challenge Level affects combat pressure rather than changing the campaign structure. Higher presets increase enemy threat through values such as aggressiveness, damage and health, while lower presets give Logan more margin for missed parries and dodges.
Stealth awareness can also be adjusted, which changes how quickly enemies notice Logan during stealth sections. That setting is useful if you enjoy hard combat but do not want the detection system to be equally strict.
The Man makes Logan effectively unkillable
On The Man, Logan cannot be knocked out. That makes it the cleanest option for story-first players, accessibility needs or trophy cleanup where repeated boss deaths would only slow down an objective.
No trophy requires a harder Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings preset, so using The Man does not lock you out of the Platinum.
Can you change difficulty mid-game?
Yes. Open Settings, then Gameplay, then Challenge Level to raise or lower the preset. There is no need to restart the story because a boss is giving you trouble.
That flexibility is particularly useful around Deathstrike, Sabretooth and Mister Sinister. You can play most of the campaign on a harder preset, lower it for one fight and raise it again afterward.
Use Dodge and Parry Input Timing before lowering everything
If the only problem is reaction speed, Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings can be supplemented with the Dodge and Parry Input Timing assist. Widening that window keeps the boss health and damage closer to your chosen preset while making the defensive input more forgiving.
Global Game Speed is another accessibility tool for players who need more processing time. Insomniac’s accessibility suite is designed so visual, motor, cognitive and combat assists can be combined.
Difficulty and Nightmare Trials
Nightmare Trials respect the game’s difficulty system, so lowering Challenge Level can make combat-based score attempts much easier. The trophy for an Adamantium rating cares about the trial score, not the difficulty preset used to earn it.
This also makes post-story cleanup less grindy. If you only need a trophy condition or a Bronze clear for the hidden-memory route, there is no requirement to prove it on The Best There Is.
Which difficulty should you choose?
Start on The Mutant if you want a balanced first run. Choose The Hunter if story and exploration matter more than combat pressure, or The Man if you want the lowest possible barrier.
The Weapon and The Best There Is suit players who already enjoy strict parry timing and aggressive enemies. Marvel’s Wolverine Difficulty Settings can be changed later, so the opening choice is not permanent.
