Play Co-Op Assault or Co-Op Warfare and return from the mission normally. Special missions such as Scramble and Emergency Sortie can appear for a limited time after those activities, at which point players who have also triggered the mission can be matched into it.
There is no published button combination or Campaign requirement that forces Ace Combat 8 Scramble to appear. The current official wording treats the trigger as an online post-mission opportunity, so repeatedly playing the core modes is the intended route.
How many players are in Scramble?
Ace Combat 8 Scramble uses a team of four. Instead of competing against another human team, those pilots take on a powerful NPC rival squad. That makes it a smaller, more concentrated PvE encounter than the eight-player activities that form much of the regular online structure.
Bring an aircraft and loadout that can stay effective against dangerous air targets. The encounter is about surviving and defeating the rival force, not maximising ground-target score for a normal Co-Op Assault rotation.
What rewards do you get?
Bandai Namco says victory in Ace Combat 8 Scramble gives greater rewards than the ordinary special-mission flow. The publisher does not publish one permanent fixed reward table in the overview, so the safest approach is to read the live mission result rather than expecting one exact item every time.
Those rewards feed the separate online progression system, where aircraft, upgrades, Ace Pass XP and other multiplayer resources are earned without relying on Campaign MRP.
Scramble versus Emergency Sortie
The trigger structure is similar, but the fights are very different. Ace Combat 8 Scramble is a four-player battle against a strong NPC rival squad, while Emergency Sortie can bring eight players together against iconic superweapon-class enemies from Ace Combat history.
If you are trying to experience both, keep completing Co-Op Assault and Warfare rather than searching for one permanent special-mission playlist. Either can appear after those core activities.
Does Campaign progress unlock Scramble?
No Campaign unlock requirement is listed for Ace Combat 8 Scramble. ACE COMBAT ONLINE has separate save data and progression, so completing Campaign missions or buying aircraft through the Aircraft Tree is not the trigger Bandai Namco describes.
Your online aircraft still matter once the mission appears, but they are earned through the mercenary side of the game rather than imported from Campaign.
Why Scramble is worth taking
Special missions break up the normal online rotation and offer enhanced rewards, making them useful whenever they appear. They are also one of the clearest PvE tests of an air-to-air online build because the objective is concentrated around a dangerous rival force.
If Ace Combat 8 Scramble appears after a normal match, take the opportunity rather than assuming you can open it from the menu later. The special mission is explicitly time-limited once it becomes available.
