HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer brings the classic tabletop dungeon crawler to PC with online co-op for the four heroic adventurers and an option for someone to take the role of the villain, Zargon. If you’ve ever wanted to recreate an evening around the HeroQuest board without everyone sitting at the same table, that’s the idea behind Nomad Games’ adaptation.
The game also includes solo play, dice-driven tactical combat and a Quest Editor for creating new adventures. Here’s what the official Steam and publisher descriptions confirm about playing together, sharing the heroes and controlling the monsters.
How many players does HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer support?
The official Steam description confirms an online party of up to four hero players, each taking part in dungeon exploration and turn-based battles. You can also play alone and control the heroes yourself, so finding a group isn’t required to explore the story.
HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer also lets someone control Zargon, the evil sorcerer who places monsters and traps against the heroes. A separate press announcement describes a possible fifth player in that role, although the official Steam feature list doesn’t separately label a fixed maximum of five players.
That arrangement recreates the familiar tabletop roles: a fellowship makes plans and explores rooms, while an opponent acts as the dungeon’s game master. Playing with a group should feel different from directing everyone yourself, since teammates may disagree about positioning and how much risk to take.
Can you play as Zargon in HeroQuest Digital Edition?
Yes. Nomad Games’ Steam description explicitly allows a player to take on the role of Zargon. Instead of guiding the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf or Wizard, you direct the enemy side by plotting threats and using the dungeon’s creatures and traps against the heroes.
That’s one of the more interesting HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer choices because it changes what winning means. The hero party wants to survive, overcome enemies and complete objectives, while Zargon is trying to stop that progress.
The public description doesn’t yet lay out every game-master interface or explain how custom monsters and traps are selected in individual quests. Those details are best checked through an official gameplay reveal or the eventual playtest.

The four HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer hero classes and their roles
The playable party consists of the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf and Wizard. Nomad is retaining the classes from the original board game, giving each one a different contribution to the expedition rather than making everyone a generic sword-wielding adventurer.
The Barbarian pushes through enemy defences, the Dwarf searches for traps, the Wizard provides powerful magic and the Elf offers flexibility in battle. Together, the characters have to navigate dangerous rooms and respond to dice rolls.
HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer uses turn-based combat. That means your team has time to plan which character should move or attack, but your choices still matter when an unexpected result or a monster threatens a vulnerable hero. The game description emphasises positioning and combining abilities.
Does HeroQuest Digital Edition have a Quest Editor?
Yes. In addition to the co-op and Zargon roles, the game will include a Quest Editor that lets players design their own adventures. It’s a natural feature for a dungeon crawler based on tabletop sessions, where making new challenges can keep a group coming back after finishing the original quests.
Nomad and Balor also confirm built-in mod.io integration for accessing community-created quests. That gives players a way to discover missions made by others without needing each creator to publish a completely separate game.
The official pages don’t show every editing tool or permission setting in detail yet. For now, it’s confirmed that players can create and discover quests, but not exactly how many custom maps or encounters a finished creation will be allowed to contain.

Can you play HeroQuest Digital Edition offline or locally?
Steam lists single-player and online co-op as supported features. If you want to play by yourself, the solo option is confirmed, and the game description says you can command the heroes alone.
For HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer with friends, the announced mode is online co-op. The Steam store lists online co-op, not shared-screen couch co-op, so the four hero slots are for online co-op.
Likewise, local network or LAN multiplayer has not been specifically listed in the official features. The developers could announce additional options later, but the supported arrangements to plan around now are solo and online co-op.
When can you play together?
HeroQuest Digital Edition has a Coming Soon Steam listing, while Balor Games lists the release date as TBD. A closed playtest is also being prepared, and the publisher offers a direct registration option on its game page.
For interested groups, wishlisting the Steam game is a way to follow release information, while the publisher’s signup offers a separate chance to take part in testing. Neither action guarantees an immediate copy of the game.
HeroQuest Digital Edition multiplayer details come from Nomad Games’ official Steam listing, with playtest information available from publisher Balor Games.
