Virtual Skate Halloween Update is live on October 4, 2026 with a six-pumpkin hunt in Socal Night, a hidden Hell section of the map, a new way to grab and throw your board, and a set of smaller bug fixes. Flip Axis Studios has kept the patch compact, but the pumpkin objective creates a proper exploration challenge because all six must be collected before the secret area unlocks.
The main progression in the Virtual Skate Halloween Update happens specifically in Socal Night. The Socal map already has Day, Evening and Night variants from the Summer Update, but the Halloween pumpkin hunt is tied to the Night version. If you are searching another version of Socal, you are in the wrong map state for the event objective.
Virtual Skate Halloween Update patch notes
The official Virtual Skate Halloween Update notes contain three headline changes:

- Collect six pumpkins in Socal Night to unlock the secret Hell part of the map.
- You can now grab your board anywhere using the trigger buttons used for climbing.
- You can throw the board after grabbing it.
- The patch also includes various smaller bug fixes.
That makes the Halloween event both a map secret and a control update rather than a purely visual seasonal reskin.
How the six-pumpkin objective works
The central Virtual Skate Halloween Update objective is simple on paper: enter Socal Night and collect all six pumpkins. Flip Axis Studios does not say that only some pumpkins count or that they must be collected in a specific order.
The important restriction is the map variant. The official wording names Socal Night, not Socal Day or Socal Evening. Players searching the daytime map can therefore spend a long time looking for event objects that belong to a different version of the level.
What do the pumpkins unlock?
Collecting all six pumpkins in the Virtual Skate Halloween Update unlocks the secret Hell part of the map. That is the confirmed reward for completing the Halloween hunt.
The developer announcement does not list a separate cosmetic, currency pack, skateboard deck or achievement as an additional reward. The value of the hunt is access to the hidden map section unless another reward is visible in the live build.
Where are the six pumpkins?
The developer confirms that all six Virtual Skate Halloween Update pumpkins are somewhere in Socal Night, but the official patch notes do not publish their individual positions. Current indexed community sources also do not yet provide a reproducible six-location route.
That means the correct search area is known, but an exact numbered list of six spots cannot be stated responsibly yet. The Day and Evening versions can be ruled out, which at least prevents searching the wrong map.
What is the Secret Hell area?
The hidden reward in the Virtual Skate Halloween Update is described by Flip Axis Studios as the secret Hell part of the map. It is a newly unlockable section connected to the Halloween pumpkin objective.
The announcement does not give the area a separate map-menu entry, list its skate spots, or describe a second unlock step after collecting the six pumpkins. The only confirmed requirement is completing the Socal Night pumpkin hunt.
Board grabbing now works anywhere
The other major Virtual Skate Halloween Update change affects board control across normal skating. Players can now grab the board anywhere using the triggers, which are also the buttons used for climbing.
This expands the climbing and hand-interaction system introduced earlier in 2026. Previously, triggers were already used for grabbing surfaces during climbing and handplant-style movement. The Halloween patch extends that interaction so the skateboard itself can be grabbed more freely.
How to throw your board
After the Virtual Skate Halloween Update, the new board-grab behaviour also allows the skateboard to be thrown. Flip Axis Studios does not publish a separate complicated input sequence beyond using the trigger-based board grab.
Grab the board with the trigger interaction, move your hand as needed and release to throw it. Because Virtual Skate is physics-driven VR, the direction and force come from the physical motion rather than a canned throw animation.
Is this the same as the 2025 Halloween update?
No. The Virtual Skate Halloween Update for 2026 is a different patch from the Surprise Spook Season update released in late 2025. Last year’s seasonal change focused on a spooky Seattle variant.
The October 4, 2026 event instead targets Socal Night, uses a six-pumpkin unlock and adds the Secret Hell area alongside the new board-grab behaviour.
Which Socal map do you need?
Use Socal Night for the Virtual Skate Halloween Update hunt. Socal was introduced with Day, Evening and Night versions during the 2026 Summer Update, which is why simply selecting Socal without checking the version can cause confusion.
If pumpkins are not appearing, verify that the Night version is loaded before assuming the event is broken.
What if the Halloween update is not showing?
If the Virtual Skate Halloween Update content is missing, first make sure the game has actually updated to the October 4 build. Fully close and restart Virtual Skate after the update has installed, then load Socal Night.
In multiplayer, it is also sensible to join a fresh current session if the host was running an older build. Do not reinstall the entire game before checking the installed version and map variant.
Are there other Halloween rewards?
The official Virtual Skate Halloween Update announcement only confirms the secret Hell map section as the reward attached to the six-pumpkin objective. No separate list of Halloween cosmetics, currency or gear is provided in the patch notes.
If the live game later exposes another reward, it should be treated separately from the confirmed six-pumpkin unlock rather than assumed from older Halloween events.
Halloween update summary
Virtual Skate Halloween Update sends players into Socal Night to collect six pumpkins and unlock a secret Hell section of the map. The patch also lets players grab their board anywhere with the trigger controls and throw it, alongside smaller bug fixes.
Use the Night variant of Socal, not Day or Evening. The developer has confirmed the six-pumpkin total and Secret Hell reward, while the exact individual pumpkin positions have not yet been published in a reliable reproducible route.
