A no holds barred message from Google appears to publicly call out Apple to push and adopt the use of RCS.

RCS, short for Rich Communication Services, was adopted by GSMA in 2008 as a new online protocol meant to defunct the current texting standard, SMS (Short Message Service).

This texting standard has been used since the 90s and has had little progress. The GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a global organization unifying the mobile ecosystem.

They also have other device and software companies and internet companies in their association. It was in 2016 that the group came up with the resolution for the tech sector to a “single, industry-agreed set of features and technical enablers.”

Basically, SMS is your plain text (unless you still do the old-school text graphics) with limited characters that you use when you send a text through your mobile plan. The group called GSMA said that needs to change since we want to share some memes and gifs too.

RCS also offers video sharing and HD-still photos and can tell you if the person you are chatting with is online.

The post from android argues that “Apple refuses to adopt modern texting standards when people with iPhones and Android phones text each other.” This refers to the company’s refusal to let go of its SMS functionality. The post also urges people to “get the message” to Apple, adding, ” It’s not about the color of the bubbles.”

The post continues with the benefits of RCS, such as supremacy through wi-fi-based apps for messaging and not just relying on cell service; security through end-to-end encryption, and lacking features like confirmation if the recipient ever read the message you sent.

According to the site, people’s frustration over Apple’s adamant about keeping SMS has been circulating on various social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok. The site also included articles about the issues iPhone users are experiencing over their SMS platform. “Apple should fix what’s broken.” is found in the middle of the website.

The feud ensues as the final section of the site even endorses other apps that iOS users can use to replace iMessage, the default app of Apple for their SMS feature.
