Ditto disguises are a popular topic amongst players of Pokemon Go. As we all know, Ditto is also probably one of the most iconic Pokemon. Introduced in Generation I, this purple blob disguises itself into any Pokemon or object using the move Transform and is thus called the Transform Pokemon on the Pokedex. And we are here to explore the Ditto disguises for January 2026.

While you almost always initially see this Pokemon in its purple blob state in a lot of Pokemon games, Pokemon Go makes it a little harder for you to know that you’re actually meeting a Ditto as the Pokemon doesn’t appear in its original state in the wild.

Instead, Ditto takes the form of other Pokemon and will only reveal itself after being caught. If you’re trying to complete the ever-expanding Pokedex, you should definitely catch Ditto. But as you won’t see this Pokemon as it is in the wild, which Pokemon should you keep an eye on? Let’s take a look below as we explore the Ditto disguises for January 2026.

There’s no way of knowing you are about to encounter a Ditto, it is purely based on luck! However, every month the chance of catching Ditto changes with specific Pokemon.

Ditto does not spawn openly on the map. When you tap a wild Pokémon that could be Ditto, it looks completely normal during the encounter and capture screen. Only once the Poké Ball closes and the catch is complete will the game reveal whether that Pokémon was actually Ditto.

If it was, you’ll see a short transformation moment before Ditto appears in your storage.

This design means Ditto hunting is less about skill and more about knowing which Pokémon are worth catching.

Oh?

The Ditto Disguises for January 2026, are due to be increased in the following Pokemon:

  • Mankey
  • Growlithe
  • Magnemite
  • Voltorb
  • Sentret

If you catch any of the Pokémon above, there is a small chance that the encounter will turn out to be Ditto once the capture is complete.

These disguise choices tend to be Pokémon that:

Appear fairly often in the wild

Are not rare or event-locked

Come from earlier generations

This keeps Ditto difficult to find, but not impossible.

There is a chance for you to catch a shiny Ditto in Pokemon Go. While the non-shiny Ditto looks like a purple blob, you’ll know you’ve seen a shiny one when, after catching any of the Pokemon in the previous list, the Pokemon transforms into a blue blob instead.

However, it is important to note that a non-shiny purple Ditto can fool you and disguise itself as a shiny Pokemon, and a shiny blue Ditto can conceal itself as a non-shiny one.

This means that if you encounter a shiny Ekans in the wild, for example, there’s a chance that a non-shiny Ditto is only playing with your eyes.

If you catch a non-shiny Pokemon that then turns out to be a blue Ditto, then consider it your lucky day!

Tips to Improve Your Chances in January 2026

If you’re actively trying to catch Ditto, a few habits can help:

Catch every Pokémon on the disguise list when you see them

Use Incense or Lures to increase total spawns

Play during events that boost common Pokémon appearances

Don’t rely on sightings or rumours — Ditto is always random

There’s no shortcut, but consistency really does pay off with Ditto.

Why Ditto Disguises Change

The developers rotate Ditto’s disguises to stop players from farming it too easily. When a disguise Pokémon becomes too common due to an event or season, it’s often removed from Ditto’s pool later on.

Because of this, it’s always a good idea to check the current disguise list here at The Click, when returning to the game after a break.
